In the face of an evolving geopolitical landscape, marked by the melting ice caps of the Arctic and the emergence of new shipping lanes, the U.S. Army has embarked on a bold new strategy aimed at solidifying its dominance in Arctic operations. As tensions rise with countries like Russia and China, training initiatives have been urgently ramped up. A focal point of this strategy is the Army Mountain Warfare School located in Jericho, Vermont, where soldiers are rigorously prepared to engage in combat and survival in one of the planet’s most unforgiving environments.
In a revealing 14-day boot camp, Business Insider’s senior producer Jake Gabbard provides an inside look at the arduous training these soldiers undergo. The first day sees the arrival of fifty-one eager participants; however, the harsh realities of mountain warfare cap graduation numbers at 40, emphasizing the demanding nature of this course. From the outset, the stakes are high as soldiers acclimatize to extreme cold temperatures and complex mountainous terrains, skills that are becoming increasingly vital in modern warfare.
As the days progress, the students face a series of increasingly challenging tasks designed to test their physical and mental fortitude. During “Winter Movement” sessions on Day 2, soldiers are introduced to the importance of mastering cold-weather gear, which becomes indispensable in their survival toolkit. As they tackle obstacles on Day 4, including the daunting Castle Rock climb, their abilities are pushed to the limits, reinforcing the need for physical strength and strategic thinking.
Midway through their training, students undergo testing that is both practical and theoretical. Days filled with knot-tying exercises and land navigation tests underscore the meticulous detail required for success in high-altitude operations. The prospect of dismissal looms over many, adding an extra layer of pressure as students navigate both their physical exhaustion and the mental challenge of the tests.
As the training culminates on Days 12 and 13, soldiers engage in high-stakes scenarios that simulate real combat conditions. Exercises like the “Casevac Test” and “OP Hill Round Robin” challenge them to perform under pressure, refining their skills in teamwork and crisis management. The culmination of this rigorous program arrives with a graduation ceremony on Day 14, marking the successful transition of a select group into a new echelon of military readiness.
The Army’s focus on mountain warfare training is not merely an exercise in skills acquisition; it is a strategic maneuver in light of the Arctic’s changing landscape. As resources become more accessible and military interests intensify in this region, the Army Mountain Warfare School stands at the forefront of preparing soldiers to meet those challenges head-on. The implications of this training extend beyond individual competencies, as it is fundamentally tied to the broader U.S. Arctic strategy aimed at establishing a formidable presence against potential adversaries, underscoring the critical importance of adaptability, resilience, and leadership in modern warfare.

I am ex army and we have the tech and training but fighting russia in russian winter they have genetic endurance to cold we dont have. Its the same disadvantage we had in vietnam fighting in jungle and extreme humid conditions. Its hard to compete with those that live it every day or all their lives. They have survival skills that we dont have. So i say fighting russia on their lands in winter is a mistake, just my take on it.
Why are all those support MOS's from mostly POG units even going to this school in the first place?
And all still to lose against Russia and/or China 🤡 Couldn’t even defeat Iraq and Afghanistan, but will defeat Russia and China… ok 🙄
Training for war against Europe in Greenland

I understand training for a war that probably won't happen is a smart tactic. I don't understand the idea of promoting it. Is this propaganda to try and push it? Seems like it
Regardless of how many time he tell you he does, Honeycutt does NOT know the knots lmao
You know, I've never understood why videos like this are released. While it's informative to us and keeps us in the loop, it could be more informative to our enemies. They shouldn't see how we're training and give them any information on how we work. I think it just puts them in more danger. I'm sure the information gleaned is minimal at best, but still 🤷🏼♀️ it's weird.
please do 19d cav scouts
"How Army Mountain Soldiers Are Training For War With Russia", against Canada and all our former allies.
Congrats, bang your chest.
They're more likely to use this training against Canada than Russia at this rate…
Man, I feel bad for SGT Honeycutt, having someone look at you doing something nevertheless, it being filmed always make stuff harder.
Training vidoes like this are a soft power tool, they let the enemy know that the US is capable of handling such threats and deters the enemy from striking.
I am at the beginning of my "investment journey", planning to put 385K into dividend stocks so that I will be making up to 30% annually in dividend returns. I’d appreciate any recommendations for strong, high-performing dividend stock..
Surely this is fake news; since climate change isn't real, there's no way the ice caps would be melting, and therefore there would be no need for this change in strategy /s
Why train for war when Comrade Krasnov will just surrender and pay reparations to Russia for the inconvenience?
India and Pakistan field the world's elite mountaineering troops, with China also notable. These forces clash in high-altitude battles along the Himalayan borders, particularly in regions like Siachen Glacier, the highest battlefield on Earth. Their unmatched expertise in extreme terrain and harsh conditions sets them apart from other global mountaineering units.
