In a fiery exchange during a press conference, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau took aim at Conservative MP Pierre Poilievre for his comments on Chinese EV tariffs. Poilievre had questioned why the federal government had not followed in the footsteps of the United States in imposing tariffs on Chinese EVs, as well as steel and other imports. Trudeau did not hold back in his response, calling Poilievre’s comments “baloney” and accusing him of spreading misinformation.
Trudeau defended his government’s approach to trade with China, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a balanced and productive relationship with one of Canada’s largest trading partners. He highlighted the complexities of global trade and the need to consider all factors before implementing tariffs. Trudeau also reiterated his commitment to supporting the growth of the EV industry in Canada and finding ways to promote clean energy technology.
Poilievre’s remarks were met with criticism from other political leaders and industry experts, who pointed out the potential negative consequences of escalating trade tensions with China. They warned that imposing tariffs on Chinese imports could have serious implications for Canadian businesses and consumers, including higher prices and supply chain disruptions. Trudeau echoed these concerns, stating that his government’s priority is to foster a stable and mutually beneficial trade relationship with China.
The exchange between Trudeau and Poilievre highlighted the ongoing debate over trade policy and the complex challenges facing Canada’s economy. While both sides may have differing views on the best approach to trade with China, Trudeau’s strong stance against Poilievre’s comments underscores the government’s commitment to navigating these challenges with caution and diligence. As the debate over Chinese tariffs continues to unfold, Canadians will be watching closely to see how the government responds to growing trade tensions and their impact on the EV industry.

Canadians are poor no one can afford electric
Bravo Pierre our future PM 👍 💙 👏
if the EVs can't handle the cold, then why invest
PP is a far right Roger Stone owned chaos operative. Nothing more.
Trudeau pretending like he cares or knows anything about greener and cleaner lol
Still waiting on the list of traitors.. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Pierre Poilievre, together with the disgraced Jordan Peterson have continued to harass the Prime Minister. Mr. Poilievre has made no secret that he would throw the Ev out!! He is a contradiction indeed. The EV is to assist in lowering emissions to fight against global warming. The United Conservative Party do not believe in climate change. Poilievre, Jordan Peterson and Danielle Smith have basically campaigned together to fight the emission caps placed on Alberta. They have little regard for the reality of global warming.
Where is your EV Mr. Trudeau?
Canadians are refusing to buy EVs Justin. Why?
Try replacing the battery on a common ICE vehicle and spend $150.00 to $300.00. (This is something most people can do by themselves)
Try the same thing with an EV vehicle and see how much you will spend!
Manufacturing jobs for International students who work Full time? For Indians?
I don't want or need an EV 🤬
Pierre is our future PM
Trudeau! Stop sending money to Ukraine and start thinking about your own people!
Cannot afford an E.V. regardless…😅.
If we do not support the EV Project, we save places like Serbia, from being stripped mined of its Litium supply. You know, the concept of using water to power vehicles, has been proven 100% sucessful. Any emissions is a water product. Using 'fossil fuels' is out; why is battery power the alternative? Give us more options to choose from.
Unless I'm missing something, Pierre was talking about Tariffs on Steel and Aluminum to match the US, not specifically the Auto Industry (though to be fair, the Auto Industry is downstream of those materials) and not even about EVs… At first I thought Trudy was actually taking a question on point for once… but nope, just more misdirection.
The only thing Trudeau slams is Canada and Canadians futures down the toilet.
Trudeau, YOUR a joke! YOUR whole government is a joke! Just step out of the way, Pierre's got this!
P.P. is on the ball ,and ofcoarse justintard would get pissed ,I'm sure he made a deal with his masters to get a kik back for each china EV sold here …truedope must end !
As usual he doesn’t answer the question. And he wonders why Canadians don’t want him.
How is traitor Trudeau not in prison ?
Hush now Justin. It will all be over soon.
Why not open Chinese EV companies in Canada?
Justin you haven’t been listening to the news. These companies are already starting to cut production.
Trudeau should resign long ago!
