Trump Remade the GOP: How Do the Ultrarich Feel?
In the affluent enclave of Greenwich, Connecticut, the conversation is as rich as the surroundings. Known for its extravagant fundraising events that draw political heavyweights from both sides of the aisle, this town has become a microcosm of the shifting political landscape in America, particularly in the wake of Donald Trump’s influence on the Republican Party.
Local journalist Annie Linskey of The Wall Street Journal takes viewers on a revealing journey through Greenwich, exploring how the ultrarich perceive the transformation within the GOP as we approach the crucial midterms. The video showcases not just the stunning homes where political gatherings occur but also the nuanced sentiments of the town’s power brokers.
The video opens with a depiction of Greenwich’s vibrant midterm climate, illustrating the critical role wealthy donors play in shaping the electoral battlefield. As candidates sip wine and socialize, the stakes are high; the political donations they secure in these lavish settings can significantly alter their campaigns.
A notable point of exploration is Trump’s residency in the area. Linskey provides insight into how his presence has changed expectations and dynamics among Republican donors. The larger-than-life figure of Trump continues to loom over the party, eliciting a spectrum of responses from local elites. Many find themselves at a crossroads, grappling with loyalty to traditional Republican values versus the populist, and often contentious, direction Trump took the party.
The content then shifts to discuss the fundamental division in Greenwich—balancing wealth and socio-political values. As the video unfolds, viewers witness the palpable tension stemming from wealth inequality, which reflects broader national issues. The ultrarich, often seen as the backbone of the GOP, are faced with questions about their role in a party that seems increasingly divided.
The suburban political shift since Trump’s rise is a focal point of Linskey’s narrative. It raises critical questions about the future of the GOP: Is the party continuing to evolve into a more populist entity, or is there potential for a return to its pre-Trump roots? This uncertainty resonates through Greenwich, where many donors are keenly aware that their influence might not carry the same weight in a transformed political landscape.
Central to this discussion is the concept of the ‘donor class.’ Linskey dives into the dynamics at play, portraying how this elite group, while powerful, is increasingly challenged by grassroots movements that harness the energy of disillusioned voters. As the video progresses, the question of what’s next looms large. How will these forces shape the GOP and its candidates in upcoming elections?
In “Trump Remade the GOP: How Do the Ultrarich Feel?”, Linskey effectively captures the voice of a nation at a pivotal crossroads, grounded by her deep-rooted connections to Greenwich. As we approach the 2026 midterm elections, this exploration of the ultrarich and their sentiments paints a fascinating portrait of American politics under the influence of Trump—provocative, uncertain, and ever-evolving.

Awesome video, slick production.
Greenwich is not a microcosm of the GOP writ large. Good Lord, no.

So youre rich too and outta touch with the country as well
You know things are bad when a Republican ex-Goldman woman says there are far too many ultra-wealthy people at the expense of those with nothing.
They'll vote blue to get financial advantages, then vote red where their hearts belong. Let's cut the cap
Greenwich is one of the most bizzare places I've ever been. There's a reason why The Stepford Wives was based on the county Greenwich is in. If I was "ultra rich", I'd want to get as far away as these people as possible.
At the end of the video, why didn't you correct the statement from Tom Foley. The Washington Post just had an article on political donations in which the Republican aligned groups donations are roughly 3x more than the democratic aligned groups. Please be truthful and objective in your reporting.

Will the center hold is he on drugs???????????
The only center left is the buisness center
It helps to get your top tax rate cut from 70%, after WWII and before Reagan, to having it reduced over 45 years to 37%. That which gets declared. Money drained from the public good and back into their own pockets, that's why so many are so rich and middle class prosperity disappeared. Yet it's never enough.
judge judy is the worst of them all in greenwich and indra nooyi. she makes hundreds of millions fining poor people $50 bucks they cant afford while she is so rich. religion aside. im not racist but they seem to have an affinity for money and fame like howard stern. stern is just a pervert.
It really is just another planet. These people cry for 'moderation' in times where moderation is the worst call possible. The Republican Party these people want is long gone with Trump appointees occupying uncountable positions in a time when we have reached media barbarism. Are they seriously promising themselves a better political environment when fencesitters take over, who brought upon the current environment in the first place? All of these people are on the absolute zenith of American affluency and shows so much in their delusion that they can bend an angry, hostile and deceptive political environment back to a friendly chat; they can do it with their subordinates but if they continue they will learn that even they have a master.
Alternative Title: Here's the rich people who are ruining this country
Trump made corrupt people more corrupt, fixed that title for you.
The entire premise of this is silly – that Greenwich democrats who don’t like Trump are somehow at the vanguard of the GOP and a fake struggle between MAGA and milquetoast RINOs (BTW, I will tell you who wins!). Greenwich elite being democrats predated Trump by a significant margin. These are the same financial elite who sold out the country to NAFTA, globalism, unlimited immigration, etc. because it benefited them. Now in hindsight the outcome offends their sensibilities so they are blaming Trump, and you are framing this as the Bushes vs Trump? Just silly nonsense. This region of the country is hardcore democrat and has been for a long time. Look at their donations. Saying Greenwich is an old school GOP stalwart is simply not true.
They don't even get it like they they don't even understand like there's nothing off to them about the fact that literally every single person in this video has wrinkles on their face and gray hair and they're talking about like a like the people who founded this country like none of the absolutely it was like literally just Ben Franklin everybody else was young none of the people who founded this country had wrinkles and gray hair And white hair
