Trump Warns of Reclaiming Control of Panama Canal Due to ‘Excessive Fees’

US President-elect Donald Trump has once again made headlines with his bold statements, this time targeting Panama and the control of the Panama Canal. In a recent video, Trump is seen threatening to take back control of the iconic waterway over what he calls “ridiculous fees.”

The Panama Canal has long been a strategic waterway for global trade, connecting the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans and saving ships the lengthy and treacherous journey around Cape Horn. The United States previously controlled the canal, but handed over control to Panama in 1999.

In the video, Trump expresses his frustration with the current situation, stating that Panama is taking advantage of the United States by charging exorbitant fees for passage through the canal. He goes on to say that if these fees are not renegotiated to his satisfaction, he will not hesitate to take back control of the canal.

This latest statement from Trump is in line with his history of challenging international agreements and pushing for a more “America First” approach to foreign policy. Whether or not he will follow through on this threat remains to be seen, but it is clear that Trump’s presidency will bring plenty of controversy and uncertainty on the global stage.
