Two massive sinkholes appear on Surrey’s main street

Residents of Godstone in Surrey were left in shock as not one, but two large sinkholes opened up on their high street, prompting Surrey County Council to declare a major incident. The first sinkhole, which appeared on Monday night, measured 20 meters long and 6 meters wide, causing a burst water main pipe and leading to the closure of the road as repairs were carried out.

As if one sinkhole wasn’t enough, a second massive hole soon appeared, leaving a car perilously close to the edge with its owner unable to move it to safety. Police quickly established a 100 meter cordon around the area to ensure the safety of residents and passersby.

Sinkholes are not uncommon in the UK, but the appearance of two in such close proximity on a high street in a quiet village has certainly caused concern among locals. The growing size of the original sinkhole and the emergence of a second hole have further heightened fears about the stability of the area.

Authorities are currently working to assess the situation and determine the best course of action to prevent any further damage or potential dangers. In the meantime, residents are urged to exercise caution and avoid the affected area.

The incident in Godstone serves as a reminder of the unpredictable forces of nature and highlights the importance of vigilance and preparedness in the face of such events.
