A Texas UPS driver passed out and crashed his vehicle in extreme heat after being told to continue driving despite feeling ill, according to union officials.
The incident occurred when the driver called for help after falling ill due to the heat, but was instructed to drive himself in. The driver ultimately lost consciousness and crashed, highlighting the dangers of working in extreme temperatures.
Union officials have expressed concern over the lack of proper protocols in place to ensure the safety of workers in such conditions. With temperatures soaring in Texas, it is crucial for companies to prioritize the well-being of their employees and provide adequate support during heatwaves.
This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of implementing proper safety measures and protocols to protect workers from heat-related illnesses. It also sheds light on the challenges faced by workers, especially during periods of extreme weather conditions.
As the investigation into the incident continues, it is crucial for companies to reassess their policies and ensure that the well-being of their employees is always the top priority. The health and safety of workers should never be compromised, especially in extreme heat conditions.

This is unacceptable.
Wow, I was just thinking about this a few days ago as I passed by in my air conditioned car.
"we care about his safety & we forced him to drive anyway"
We have had record heat here in the Pacific NW year, after year for the last 5 years now.
New standards need to be put into place, teaching employees basics about heat exhaustion and how to efficiently cool yourself.
Worlds changing and education is only diminishing.
Trucks are about 20 degrees hotter than outside
Sounds like UPS. Those are some phucken heavy Trucks. And seems he followed policy of the seat belt. 👏👏👏👏👏👏
Ups management: I'm sorry sir we're going to have to let you go
Ups upper management sucks!
The company will get sued for not having air conditioners in the vehicle
Someone didn’t get their packages that day. Lol
Wow UPS
Oh shiver me timber it really hurts my multibillion dollar company to scrape a couple million dollars out to implement basic policies that would help keep our deliverers cool in hot weather 🙄
When the reason you crashed is because of climate change and your company is part of the issue.
Hope you’re alright prayers for this individual
More Corporate Greed
This is how I feel about dehydration in extreme heat. I understand that water is healthy, but there are times that sports drink, and even soda can really help you. I think that if these people would swallow their pride and drink soda or any sugary drink in the heat it will help because sometimes water doesn’t cut it.
This is ridiculous! Why these men/women not have ac in all their vehicle types? This is not the same heat 5 or 10 yrs ago. UPS makes too much money to be putting workers in this kind of unnecessary due stress.
Heat illness can come on so fast, companies need to act fast… and remember it wasn't a company telling the driver to drive himself in it was a human being. No hiding behind your company when someone's life is at stake.
I am not accpeted UPS van without air conditing.
Been going on for years
they are known for this.

In 2023 Texas Gov. Greg Abbott passed House Bill 2127, that banned local ordinances from mandating protections for workers exposed to extreme heat – Texas House approves sweeping limits on local regulations in GOP’s latest jab at blue cities
They need to stop working for them
