A Tornado Warning was issued for Coconino County in north central Arizona on Wednesday morning, and a Tornado Watch is in effect for northern and central Arizona until 6 p.m. MST.
NWS Flagstaff issued the warning at 11:32 a.m. MST, valid until 11:45 a.m.
The warning was based on radar-indicated rotation.
Tornado Warning Near Valle
At 11:32 a.m. MST, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located 6 miles west of Valle, or 30 miles south of Grand Canyon Village.
It was moving northeast at 45 mph.
Hazards: a tornado and quarter-size hail.
Locations in the path included Valle, Valle Airport and Red Butte Mountain.
The warning also covered State Route 64 between mile markers 213 and 232.
Flying debris would be dangerous to anyone caught without shelter, and mobile homes could be damaged or destroyed.
Tornado Watch 688 for Northern and Central Arizona
The NWS Storm Prediction Center issued Tornado Watch 688 at 10 a.m. MST.
It runs until 6 p.m. MST for Coconino, Mohave, Navajo and Yavapai counties.
The watch area is along and 70 miles north and south of a line from 95 miles west of Grand Canyon to 45 miles east of Winslow.
SPC says a few tornadoes are possible.
Large hail is likely, with isolated hail to 2.5 inches in diameter.
Damaging wind gusts to 70 mph are possible.
Strong wind shear will support supercell thunderstorms, and the threat lasts through the afternoon and into the evening.
Other Warnings in Flagstaff Area
A Flash Flood Warning was in effect for portions of Coconino County, including Moenkopi, until 3 p.m. MST.
Earlier, a Severe Thunderstorm Warning covered Pine and Strawberry, with hail up to two inches.
What to Do
A watch means conditions are favorable for tornadoes and severe storms.
Stay alert and listen for later statements and warnings.
If a warning is issued, move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a well-built building, away from windows.
If you are outdoors, in a mobile home or in a vehicle, get to the closest substantial shelter.
