At one of Toronto’s busiest transit stations, some riders have found a way to access free rides on the bus or subway by taking advantage of unsecured bus bays on Duplex Avenue. This practice, deemed dangerous and illegal by the TTC, has become a real problem in terms of fare evasion at this location. Global’s Sean O’Shea reports that the open fare evasion is happening right in front of anyone who passes by.
The TTC has made it clear that this behavior is not only against the law, but it also puts both riders and staff at risk. With fare evasion already being a concern for the transit system, this unauthorized access to free rides only adds to the challenge of maintaining revenue and ensuring the safety of all passengers.
It is important for riders to understand that taking advantage of unsecured bus bays in order to evade paying fares is not only unethical but also has real consequences. The TTC is working to address this issue and increase security measures to prevent further incidents of fare evasion at this location.
For more information on this story, you can visit Global News’s website at the provided link. The TTC is urging all riders to abide by the rules and regulations of the transit system in order to ensure a safe and fair experience for everyone. Let’s work together to keep Toronto’s transit system running smoothly and efficiently.

This happens at every station, nobody seems to care. Truly is an upside world now, nothing makes sense.
Go to warden station another wide free fare entry gate there as well goodluck getting people to pay now.
Happens literally everywhere in the city – stand outside of Wellesley, Spadina or Bathurst and you'll see the same thing over and over.
look at all these future engineers and doctors who will promise you to up hold their professional standards.
How about fixing the presto card reading machines so many Wheel-Trans riders get free rides when the driver says card reader not working, Senior or no senior disabled but all have to abide by rules when someone doesn’t pay ok but when money is put in th😅epresto card amount not paid should be deducted High time teach discipline also
Ask drivers to refrain from using their mobiles talking while driving thismay cause someday somebody’s life
Public Transit should be free.
i used to do it in the 70s when i was a teen at MAIN STN
Is it fare evasion or a convenience entry which should have a legal entrance?
This has always been happening for years.
Guy crossed same way into the country you think ttc is any match
Finch station is also pretty bad. Counted about 45people fare evade in the span of about 20 min. TTC Should station inspectors at those areas and automatically issue the maximum fine.
No surprise, it's Indian international students who came to this country in the last two years (1.5M plus) with the help of diploma mill institutions. The majority of them cheated to come here, and now they're cheating the whole system in Canada. Not only that, but they also try to bring their culture here as well. This country will never be considered a developed country if they keep on doing this. Thanks to Trudeau, it's already happening.
Yo i moved to the city last year and i came from a place that didnt have a subway or many buses. I live near here and fully thought this was an entrance and would find myself in and going down to the subway & looking for the gate to tap my card?! And being confused over and over like, am i supposed to exit the front to go back in to pay? This is the dumbest set up for people who aren't TTC savvy. It took me months to realise you're just simply not supposed to enter that way and instead, had to walk all the way around through a bunch of construction to get into the entrance. Im telling you if you're not from a city with a major transit system its not as obvious as you think it is. And if you were ever new remember how confusing and overwhelming everything was
Of course Indian student don't want to follow rules.
Its all racism in the comments lol idk why im surlrised
This is just one of the many ways people avoid paying the fare. I take streetcars sometimes and 90% of the people do not tap.
Yes eventually it cost 💲 honest People more -They know actually what They are doing
I had to walk from Islington to Runnymede twice in the same week in 30+ degree weather because the subway inexplicably went out of service just one stop in to my journey. This is a regular occurrence on the TTC. Personally, I'm sick of paying fares and not getting to my destination in a reasonable amount of time. At least 50% of the time I have to walk because of transit delays. It's completely unstable.
Typical suspects getting a free ride finding the loopholes in our government systems nobody even wants them here. Why are they here?
They are all lying. Why don’t they just put a pit bull at the entrance
99 percent of them is indians
Go to Islington Station just as bad walking off Bloor right into the bus bays and Subway.
