Vietnam Is Quietly Copying China’s Artificial Islands Strategy
In a move that mirrors China’s aggressive land reclamation efforts in the South China Sea, Vietnam is rapidly constructing artificial land in the disputed region. Hanoi has broken its own record for land reclamation in the shadow of Chinese aggression, conducting dredging operations to expand and build military infrastructure on atolls in the Spratly group of islands.
The South China Sea holds strategic importance due to its location and abundant natural resources, making it a hotly contested area for countries like China, Vietnam, and others with overlapping territorial claims. China’s island-building activities in the region have long been a source of tension, leading to increased militarization and naval patrols.
While Vietnam is fortifying its presence in the South China Sea, it is also maintaining close diplomatic ties with both the U.S. and Beijing. This delicate balance reflects Vietnam’s efforts to protect its territorial interests while navigating the complex geopolitical landscape of the region.
The military preparations and infrastructure development by Vietnam in the South China Sea are seen as a response to China’s assertive actions in the region. By expanding its presence and capabilities in the disputed waters, Vietnam is sending a clear message that it is willing to defend its territorial claims.
China, for its part, has responded to Vietnam’s activities with heightened vigilance and monitoring of the situation. The tensions between the two countries continue to simmer as they compete for control over the strategic waters of the South China Sea.
As Vietnam quietly follows in China’s footsteps in building artificial islands and fortifying its military presence in the South China Sea, the region remains a volatile hotspot of geopolitical competition and territorial disputes. The actions of both countries raise concerns about the potential for further escalation and conflict in one of the world’s most contested maritime regions.

I like how i clicked on a video about vietnam and half the video is about fearmongering China
It’s been more than 20 years since Vietnam started to occupy Chinese territory in the South China Sea and build artificial islands. Western media never reported the whole story and whole picture in the South China Sea until this report.
1:54 When China claimed the 9 dash line, UNCLOS didn’t exist yet. That’s why China’s claim didn’t need to follow the UNCLOS rules.
No country follows a law that didn’t exit in the first place.
Hoang Sa, Truong Sa belong to Vietnam
Duh Vietnam is friends with china
You all wanted to have open trade with China and most of us said I think that’s a bad idea, but you all made your money and somebody else has to clean up the mess, as usual. Is that really capitalism? When the biggest guys never have any risk at all.
US has no right to claim South China sea you country is not here
Technically this is just a normal activity to futher support the claim to Vietnam's own territory and its EEZ,
Video about vietnam island building but mention China more than vietnam……
Sad, this is what happens when nobody owns property…the tragedy of the communist commons, when everyone exploits and grabs and takes what they never produced or created
This YT channel is full of BS! Unsubscribed
And who do you think is funding it…
people dont know but it is vietnam that occupies most of the south china sea , china only has 4 islands Vietnam has like 30 of em
Why not? If China is being allowed to without issue then the other nations there should as well.
Almost all Chinese in the comment section are using Chinese, in an English video 😂😂🤣🤣
The Us also did this
Don't hate the player hate the game
lol Vietnams Mekong is choked and all their border allies are prochina. That’s why China isn’t saying anything. Vietnam is surrounded.😂
Go Vietnam!
The fact:
Truong Sa Hoang Sa belong to Vietnam
You cannot blame Vietnam. China is such a bully.
At least VIetnam isn't trying to claim the entire SCS like China. It also seems more like a reaction to Chinese actions. The CCP is and has been the aggressor that everyone is having to make changes for. The CCP is always speaking of peace and prosperity while they are the ones destroying the peace in the region. It really is laughable the propaganda they put out. Look at how they try to bully the Filipinos.
Please report; Return the Chagos archipelago to Mauritius in the Indian Ocean which is occupied by Britain and is used as a military base for Britain and the United States which is used to bomb Afghanistan, Iraq and Syria.
Not surprising. It's all part of diplomacy too. You can't do pure diplomacy without guns. Doesn't mean it'll actually be used. Nukes are the prime example of how it works… you won't see nuclear powers like India and China going at it. It doesn't make sense to mutually destruct. If Vietnam can power-play China more, then Vietnam can bargain for more on the table.
Don't be fooled by politicians. They are shaking hands all the time with each other. Negotiation is part of the game
wait till u see america
Wait to the world copies our 800 military bases around the world strategy.
100% support for Vietnam
what 9 dash line…ccp increase to 10 dash lastest update !
And interestingly vietnam is the one who started that
The problem with Vietnam is that it has a land border with China, so if a conflict were to arise, Vietnam has more possibilities of harming China than the Philippines, and therefore China is more cautious with Vietnam.
Vietnam is very smart to keep quiet of its rapid expansion in South China Sea, a sweat spot in geopolitics.
Vietnam do not host US military, so China will pretend not to see it.
China knows but stays silence 😅
China CCP lost the war with Vietnam the first time, it will the second time too.
2:10 if jews claim historical right to palestine , then the Chinese have the right to do the same 😅
There is an open secret that if someone invade our islands, there will be no more islands within 15 minute.
Greattttt
Both China and Vietnam are communist countries and i'm sure there is some backdoor handshake regarding this move to keep The Philippines out. Afterall all this is to keep US out of the region as much as possible.
this technology of making artificial islands is good but if only there was technology to make water from dry land for countries made of desert
While my country the US lapdog…..
Well, thanks WSJ, for blowing that cover… that was cool. Slick. Now we know who NOT to trust in jail. JK.
Didn’t the UK come up with the 9 dash line when they intended on taking China like they did a significant chunk of Africa?
big up the Geordie accent
Vietnam is communist too don't forget that
So now countries can't arm their own islands? I wish someone would bring this up with Hawaii, because those people don't look like Americans at all. In fact, when there is a natural disaster in Hawaii, Japan sends money lolololol
Why should they stop?
China has an un rightful claim to a sea by the UN , called the south CHINA sea 😂😂😂😂😂 Its literally has their name in it… What a time to be alive.
Just sediments from Red Rivers and Mekong Rivers Deltas that piled up at the islands, nothing to see here.
