What's life like for Canada's queer indigenous community? | DW Documentary
This film delves into the world of members of indigenous LGBTQIA+ communities in Canada. Activist and filmmaker Sarain Fox sheds light on their lives, while asking what the future holds. The answers come from a wide variety of perspectives.
On her quest, Sarain accompanies a young family friend on a journey of her own as she works to complete her coming out process with her friends, family and pow wow community. She also meets with other members of the Indigenous community. Along with queer fellow human beings, old guardians of knowledge and the well-known drag queen Ilona Verley, she sheds light on their stories, and on their perspectives on indigenous and sexual identity.
Through these connections, Sarain gains a better understanding of who she is, where she came from and what the future holds for the next generation of queer Indigenous youth.

people are people you cannot control other people shall they participate in capitalism,.
This is so bizarre. What stupid and irrelevant topic to be talking about. Get real, what are the chances of Indigenous queer percentage out there? Maybe one one thousand of a percent.
So instead of making a documentary on Native American inventions/history like rubber, syringes, baby bottles, birth control methods, pain relievers, baby bottles, pemmican, etc. as well as many foods cultivated and introduced to the rest of the world like corn, maize, potatoes, chocolate, beans, tomatoes, squash, etc. as well as our parts in world affairs mainly wars like the civil war, wars for independence, ww1 and WW2. Not to mention how modern day scientists and others are beginning to research the way we cultivated crops sustainably and how efficient and advanced the agrarian societies were compared to other regions at that time. What about residential schools and the atrocities committed by colonists there? So many things but you do this? LGBTQ are notoriously treated better in Native American communities than other not Native American communities like white or black. It’s not perfect but it’s better than most. These type of videos only bring out the uneducated trailer inhabitants. Do better.
dont you have a genocide in the middle east to report about ?
This comment section is rotted. Who knew that people living authentically can be so triggering? The people in shambles because they saw a queer person are the same ones crying about snowflakes 💀
I now understand when someone told me that DW is Germany's BBC or CNN. Unsubscribed.
German tax payers must be happy 😂
Yeah I'm definitely unsubscribing.
As a Canadian why tf are you embarrassing us like this?
Thank you for putting together and sharing these beautifully crafted stories. Absolutely lovely and amazing.❤🏳️🌈
Fascinating details! by the way what y all opinion on the song by the queer Johannes Pietsch at Eurovision? 💮
No one cares….
Thanks DW for highlighting facts.
Do these people support Gaza?
Can you do a bit on pipeline welders. I can guarantee with 100% factuality that I endure far greater hardship than what is perceived by "indigiqueer" peopleseses
LMAO
who cares lol
<More DW krap
Why are these apples being showcased by this documentary? Stop shaming what queer actually means when a real Native uses, not what these WNB's and Generokees use it for!
Beautiful look into the lives of two spirited folks. I wish there was more said about their role in traditional ways- like I have heard they are often medicine carriers because of their intersectionality/liminal status.
Wonderful documentary and ignore all the ignorant haters!
As a non-binary person, I love the name Two Spirit! 💜
THE BLOOD OF JESUS SHALL PREVAIL!
ST JOHN 3:16! ❤

"AND WHOSOEVER WAS NOT FOUND WRITTEN IN THE BOOK OF LIFE WAS CAST INTO THE LAKE OF FIRE."
REVELATION 20:15!
Probably similar to the trinidadian lesbians who converted to baptist twice reformed. The minority that speaks Guyanese, not the albinos.
Thank you for your queer videos and documentaries DW! Despite all the human trash floating up to the surface in the comments, I want you to know the queer community appreciates them! And with the IDAHOBIT (International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersexphobia and Transphobia) coming up, it's important to represent and show queer struggles and the hate we unfortunately still face! 🏳🌈
This is soo awesome! I'm so happy they're finding the chance to connect with their roots and find new growth from both inside and outside 🫶🏿
proud of these people.
We don't care.
aaah they pushing so hard for nonsense topic 😑
Biggest waste of time I’ve ever encountered.
28:04 is that a girl or a boy?
I say thank you. 💛💙💜💚🧡❤️
Two spirit. I knew nothing of how terrible people treated people only my own. Then the internet happened. We are not taught to know only our own pain we suffer as it comes to us with others. At my age of 62, I'm hurt as a female finding out I'm someone in one culture of my father. Him not ever know who his bloodline was. This had made, finding his biological father & family difficult. But not knowing who we are was more painful for him. Knowing his adopted family, my grandmother was hurt by his asking questions of his biological parents. They loved my father dearly, and I'm more forgiving & understanding of her fears today. Never wanting him to look had caused a riff.
I was a tom boy fallowing my father around. I didn't understand myself. How much we force others to conform to be gender specific. I would go within myself. No one to talk to. Our own families taught us to be or act normal. Wtf is normal but a setting on my washing machine, and I still have no idea when to utilize that setting or what it's for. Just sayin.
I've spent my entire life learning who I am. I will continue learning myself, loving myself. Looking search wanting longing for acceptance from even myself.
Ignorance isn't an excuse to treat anyone other than who they are. Just sayin.
Love,
Cill~Granny P.

LOL. DW has become such an incredible joke.

🎯 – This program is bullseye modern Germany .. !!! 🎯
… and …
it goes extremely well with your relatively recent shut down of ALL nuclear power plants, your commencement of the deindustrialisation of the whole country as well as your initialisation of a ban of the AfD .. !!!
🫶 – What a lovely combo !!! 🫶
