Olympic rugby player Ilona Maher wowed the judges and audience on “Dancing With the Stars” with her impressive performance of the iconic lift from the classic film “Dirty Dancing.” The lift, made famous by Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey in the 1987 movie, has become a symbol of romance and skill in the dance world.
But just how difficult is it to pull off the “Dirty Dancing” lift? Many dancers and athletes have attempted to recreate the famous move, with varying degrees of success. The lift requires strength, coordination, and trust between partners, making it a challenging feat for even the most experienced dancers.
For someone like Ilona Maher, a professional athlete with a background in rugby, the physical demands of the lift may have been slightly easier to conquer. Rugby players are known for their strength and agility, which could have helped Maher execute the lift with grace and precision.
However, even with her athletic prowess, mastering the “Dirty Dancing” lift is no easy task. The timing and technique required to lift a partner above one’s head while maintaining balance and control are skills that take years of practice to perfect.
In the end, Ilona Maher’s performance of the iconic lift on “Dancing With the Stars” showcased not only her athleticism but also her commitment to mastering a challenging dance move. The audience was left in awe of her strength and skill, proving that pulling off the “Dirty Dancing” lift is no small feat.

Hey Guys in all seriousness, here's something you all should know, and that is that JESUS CHRIST died in the cross for your sins and mine. He rose 3 days later through divine intervention. And the good book says "For GOD so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." I'm not telling you this to convert you to a cult and I know that you all have your own beliefs and identities. I'm just hear to tell you the truth about the world, and that is JESUS.
That’s just it they didn’t successfully do the move!! She WASN’T floating above his head in the air like in the movie. She was resting on his shoulder and the news lady had her hands on the guy’s shoulders. So neither succeeded!!! 👎🏻
Looks like the person lifting is doing all the work but the person being lifted also needs the core strength to keep their body straight.
It would also help if you were in shape like Patrick Swayze and small and skinny like Jennifer Grey.
If you perform it right you can do it even with hulk 😂
