The White House is standing firm on President Donald Trump’s decision to impose a 25 per cent tariff on steel and aluminum, with press secretary Karoline Leavitt stating that this move is aimed at protecting America’s critical industries and putting American workers first. This bold action comes as part of Trump’s promise to reduce prices and prioritize domestic production. Despite concerns from economists about potential increases in costs, the administration believes that these tariffs are necessary for national security and the well-being of American workers.
The impact of these tariffs is already being felt, as U.S. inflation has accelerated in recent months due to rising costs of groceries and gasoline. This trend is likely to influence the Federal Reserve’s decision-making regarding interest rates in the future. While the long-term effects of these tariffs remain to be seen, the White House remains committed to its stance on prioritizing American workers and safeguarding critical industries.
As the debate over these tariffs continues, it is clear that President Trump’s administration is resolute in its efforts to protect American interests. With a focus on bolstering domestic industries and supporting U.S. workers, the White House is defending its decision to impose tariffs on steel and aluminum as a necessary step towards economic growth and national security.

Canada will join the EU. Trump can not be trusted
Who would’ve guessed that when Trump said “make America great again,” he meant dragging her kicking & screaming back to the 1930’s?!
Great Depression AGAIN!
I'm 110% on America's side on this one. I've lived in Canada long enough to know they can't manage them selves out of a cardboard box, let alone the negotiations of President Donald J Trump 🇺🇸
Congrats America. You speed ran the world and your allies despising you
I wish we had a leader that stood up for Canadians and not accusing us of genicide.
True🇺🇸🇨🇦
Holy 💩… 😮It just doesn’t end.
All of these negative comments towards the republicans – the same can be said about democrats/liberals.
Shut down Ontario auto sector. Leave our oil alone.
The last time US put tariffs on Canadian Steel and Aluminum in 2017 , US metal production gained 1,000 jobs. BUT USA manufacturing lost 75,000 jobs. So this 27 year old Karen is defending the loss of 74,000 American manufacturing jobs. Got it. Now do the price of eggs.
I don't think the American gov't learnt from it's own history. Might want to go back and look up Smoot Hawley Tariff Act and the effect it had on the American economy back in the 1930's. A lot of economists betlieve that it extended the great depression and the only thing that got the Americans out of it was the begining of WWII and the USA selling military arms to the Allies for the first 2+ years of the war.
"American workers first" Is that why Trump and his oligarch friends are anti-labor rights? They don't believe in strong unions, raising the min wage, paid parental leave by law, paid vacation by law, paid sick days by law, affordable universal healthcare, affordable free college so that people can get a higher paying job and aren't in massive debt, health and safety rules for food, safety regs that prevent tragedies where workers die or get injured because you want to "save money", etc.
They want their workers to be masochists.
The issue is the American steel and aluminum industries have not been modernized like China's, for example. China produces more steel and aluminum than any other country by far. But the Chinese modernized their systems long ago so they can produce those commodities more quickly and cheaply than the USA can. Canada can produce aluminum much more cheaply and quickly, too. It's why we were suddenly "a threat" when Trump came to power.
America has always had an isolationist stance. After their War of Independence was decidedly over, they turned their backs on the French who wanted them to return the favour of helping them against the British. Everything is cool as long as America wins or goes home with everything. It's been their foreign policy since day one. And they can get away with it. They have a huge country with a large population and plenty of resources, AND there is no other country nearby that can or even wants to conquer them.
As far as any comments made in the media. Forget it. Americans don't give a hoot in hell about Canada unless they want something. All this northern neighbour, brothers in arms stuff is all crap. The USA sees Canada like it sees every other country: backward foreigners getting in their way as their corporations try to gain control of more natural resources.
the term ripping off has been elevated
Poor girl doesn’t know what she’s talking about but she’s young and still has time to learn! LOL! Tariffs will hurt the American people!
Finally Canada can get away from the grips of USA, about time we got new trade partners. Asia, Europe, rest of the world.
I wasn’t aware that American steel and aluminium were having job security problems. Trump is causing a constitutional crisis
Haha, the golden rule. If for one day everyone would treat each other the way Trump treats people I’m 100% sure civilization would be history. Guys got some serious skeletons in his closest.
Let's just call the tariffs what it is. Market manipulation. Trump and Musk are stocking dear in the markets so they and their robber baron friends can invest cheap on stocks that will benefit over the next 4 years. Warehouse farms where robots pick the produce is an example of an industry that will skyrocket if Trump continues with his mass deportations.
O plz. U all are squatters.. ! On Native lands ……
She means, Netanyahu's genocidal government first!
Its wild how so many people dont know Canada has had a 30% tariff on the USA for aluminum for over a decade and the USA tariff on Canadian aluminum was only 7%
The guy said multiple times "we're treating other how they treat us" so if we remove the tariff on aluminum, so will they.. i know its a tough concept for some to grasp
Does he want a recession? Because this is how you do a recession.
Canadian pravda working overtime.
DID YOU KNOW TRAITOR TRUDOPE SOLD CANADA'S GOLD RESERVES . TRUST ME TRUMP & CENTRAL BANKS ARE ACCUMULATING GOLD . A GOLD STANDARD OF SOME SORT IS COMING
Wow she is gorgeous! Wow 😳
😮 The USA claiming to be victims in the world ❓
Incredibly stupid Dondald Trump continues the destruction of the US using his massibve stupodity.
Yes job well done mr president trump we love you 😍 ❤️ 💜 ♥️ 💕 💓 😍 ❤️ 💜 ♥️ 💕
Raise your hand if you're also a Canadian small business now purchasing all of your supplies from Canada. Glad I am still at the start up stage and can source out everything from my own country. Paying a little more for quality is never an issue.
Canada needs to start working with other countries to put u.s. in to recession and stock market to crash then Americans will see what trump is all about
Didn't work last time.. won't work this time.
thats good since the judges are blocking trump and his craziness , american workers and canadian workers will be out of jobs because of the 25% tariffs , thats very bad sign , so when american loose there jobs , you wait and watch , trump polls will dipping fast lol
unfortunately most Canadians don't understand how true it is that the U.S actually needs nothing from canada to be successful. The damage some think we can do to America financially is actually miniscule. Hopefully Americans and their gov't care about an ongoing healthy relationship between our two countries that has stood the test of time and that having countires on both sides of their border that are failing economically would not be in their best interest and We cant fund our military if we cant feed our people. Hopefully they care what actions like this will do to our tiny Canadian economy compared to the US. I'm all for renegotiated fair deals where both sides benefit. I would like Canada to supply its own national defence with an investment in our military and rely on no other country for our success economically. I'm ok with going thru some hard times if our govt can put us in an improved position for the future. One where reliance on the U.S usefull but not needed.
Well you deported all your pickers fir fruit and vegetables. How are you supporting your American farmers? In about one month's time, you will be wondering why you are so hungry…
Who’s going to pay, American people?
How about the oil of ours you get a a gigantic discount on and then refine it and sell back to us at a gigantic amount that is unfair trade
This is not just about Tariffs this is control. And to control the world. There is more to come until people cannot afford to buy food anymore. Will be forced to take whatever they want to impose. The Mark. We are at the beginning to an end. There is more to come. This is just the tip of the iceberg.
After nine years of of destroying Canada with taxes ,immigration, and inflation the liberal NDP are suddenly economic experts 🙄🙄
Poor US victimes.
No February data on number of migrant deportations either. Looks like the January stint was just for show.
It is going to balloon 🎈 USA economy forcing the stretch of standard actuality
Canada's let america take whatever they want for years, why worry about it now?
So much action and tangible activity. Imagine if Kamala had won, LOL. We'd still be trying to unravel what "opportunity economy" meant, other than anti-white racism lol.
