WHO Declares Global Public Health Emergency as DRC Becomes Centre of Mpoz Epidemic, Reports FRANCE 24 English

The World Health Organization (WHO) has officially declared a global public health emergency as the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) becomes the epicentre of a deadly M-pox epidemic. In response to the outbreak, a massive vaccination campaign is set to be rolled out in several African countries in the coming days.

The newest strain of M-pox has caused widespread concern as it continues to spread rapidly throughout the region. To prevent further transmission, stringent screening and border controls are being implemented in neighbouring countries.

To shed more light on the situation, FRANCE 24’s Haxie Meyers-Belkin sat down with Placide Mbaia, the head of epidemiology at the National Institute for Biomedical Research in Kinshasa. Mbaia provided valuable insights into the current state of the epidemic and the steps being taken to contain it.

As the situation escalates, it is crucial for authorities and healthcare organizations to work together to combat the spread of M-pox and protect vulnerable populations. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing public health crisis.
