Austria’s recent election results have ignited celebrations among far-right and nationalist parties across Europe, as the hard-right Freedom Party emerged victorious. Led by Herbert Kickl, the party’s strong stance on issues such as immigration and nationalism resonated with voters, leading to a significant increase in support since the last election.
Despite their electoral success, Kickl and the Freedom Party may face challenges in forming a government, as other mainstream parties have expressed reluctance to collaborate with them. The need for a coalition partner has left the country’s political landscape in limbo, with the possibility of a ‘grand coalition’ unity government being discussed.
The rise of the Freedom Party has been welcomed by other right-wing populist leaders in Europe, who see Austria’s election results as a step towards furthering their own gains in the region. Members of the party’s alliance in the European Parliament, Patriots for Europe, including figures like Viktor Orbán and Marine Le Pen, have applauded the Austrian outcome as a positive development.
For a more in-depth analysis of Austria’s political shift towards the right, experts like Jacques Rupnik, a Central Europe Specialist and Director of Research at Sciences Po’s Centre of International Research, provide valuable insights. The implications of the Freedom Party’s success and the potential formation of a ‘grand coalition’ government are crucial considerations in understanding the current political climate in Austria and beyond.

if these far-right parties are so awesome, why are they sponsored by the Russian government who want to destroy the West?
How is it democracy when the party that gets the most votes is not part of a coalition? It's the will of the people. This is why Western politicians lack credibility.
wow that makes a party " Far Right " That's laughable
Far-right = Putting your country and it's people first.
Everything the left does not like is far right.
'Grand coalition' of keeping them borders open and the musIims coming?
Congratulations love from The Philippines
As happened in France
Yes. Thats how the facists can be defeated. Like Macron forming a Centre Left and Marxists and sidelining the NR fascists.
In Britain the Reform facists only got 5 MPs
See what happened in Israel where the Right religious extremists are wagging the the tail of a unity govt which has gone berserk hitting out left right and centre .
The so called Far Right will grow even more in the next election if this out of touch grand coalition is formed
put it plainly they do not want the same thing messing the UK up in there country
I never understood the reasoning or craziness of migration it serves no one but the migrant not the indigenous when all you need is just a work permit for 2 – years then they leave the country
No such thing as far right, just wacko left.
why are these party's all so pro Russia, its weird
The establishment refusing to respect the election results in France, Germany and now Austria will destroy the EU.
I don`t understand. If the citizens of one country decide they do no want immigrants why they need to be forced to accept the inflow anyway ?. I mean what`s the end game to take in more than you need or can assimilate. Not to mention maybe you need certain specialists not just anyone to be there as a number. I never understood Merkel`s craze that europe need to take anyone no matter the background from anywhere. And let me tell you they don`t want to immigrate to eastern Europe they only want the countries that offer the richest benefits. So one part of Europe is overrun but immigration.
Coalition against their own people
Far Right?
More like rational conservatism?
in a long run center parties will lose even more votes if mating with a far left bolsheviks in order to phase out so called Nazies.
Could Austria's victorious far-right be sidelined by a 'grand coalition' unity government? 1.10.24 No, not funny but people looking to stereotypical notions and then towards the actualities of the matter…..
Why is being against immigration is " far right " then if logic is applied all Arab countries are " far right' as they stop immigration..of refugee from Gaza…
Sir I like old things. I also like. Old politics gone are the days that we try to talk about things that matter o to us now if we ever say bad things we destroy each other with a whim..I just wish that we have to define a true left or a true right, those days are gone now.
