The return of Michel Barnier: Will divided France approve Macron’s PM pick?
The political landscape in France is set to undergo a significant shift as President Emmanuel Macron has named Michel Barnier, a Brussels veteran and former EU Brexit negotiator, as the country’s new prime minister. This decision comes after a seven-week wait following the resignation of Macron’s previous prime minister.
At 70 years old, Barnier is set to become the oldest prime minister in France in the past century. With his extensive experience in European politics and negotiations, he will be tasked with forming a government that can navigate the complexities of French politics and win the approval of both the government and the public.
One of the key challenges facing Barnier will be uniting a divided France, as the country grapples with political polarization and social unrest. Macron’s choice of Barnier as prime minister is seen as an attempt to bridge the gap between different factions within the country and bring about a sense of unity.
As Barnier steps into his new role, he will need to leverage his negotiating skills and diplomatic finesse to navigate the challenges ahead. With the looming threat of a vote of no confidence, he will have to work swiftly and effectively to build a government that can withstand the scrutiny of the French parliament.
The appointment of Barnier as prime minister represents a new chapter in French politics, one that will be closely watched both within the country and on the international stage. As he takes on this new role, all eyes will be on how he navigates the political landscape and leads France through this period of uncertainty and change.

Polski at 39'31" "Marine Le Pen is quite intelligent" — and what are you then?
I was imagining the counterpart on BBC World: Five Britons discussing British politics in French! Anyone with me on this? (not in a thousand years–they can't get the pronunciation of Kursk right). Picard is VERY good (as always) and what a hunk to boot😉.
Old playbook ???
But we live in 21 century …
What's up girls ….
Really bad time for France …
So sadly …
He likes Putin and Xi …
Nobody gives a damn about what France approves. It's all about selling the commons to the private sector/finance and leave France as a giant subscription based system for everything.
Barnier is probably the best consensus guy to lead the next french govt.
France a dying nation.
Why does she keep saying the left won the election…a coalition is not a party and that coalition is nowhere near a majority 😂
