In a recent interview with the Wall Street Journal, Democratic Senator Ruben Gallego of Arizona shed light on the current state of the Democratic Party and what they need to do to appeal to voters in the future. Despite President Donald Trump winning Arizona in the November election, Gallego managed to secure the state for the Democrats by focusing on key issues that resonated with constituents.
Gallego highlighted the importance of addressing voters’ concerns about national security, the economy, immigration, and tariffs. He emphasized the need for the Democratic Party to prioritize these issues and develop effective policies that address them. Additionally, he discussed the importance of expanding access to Medicaid and affordable health insurance, which are crucial issues for many Americans.
One of the key points Gallego touched on was the need for the Democratic Party to reassess its leadership and messaging strategies. He stressed the importance of reaching out to Latino men, a demographic that has often been overlooked by the party in the past. Gallego also discussed the importance of taking a strong stance on immigration issues and not shying away from challenging Republicans on policy decisions.
When it comes to President Trump and his approach to border security and tariffs, Gallego emphasized the importance of holding the administration accountable and standing up for democratic principles. He stressed the need for Democrats to present a clear and unified message that resonates with voters and offers a compelling alternative to Trump’s policies.
Overall, Senator Ruben Gallego’s insights shed light on the challenges facing the Democratic Party and the importance of developing effective strategies to win back voters in the future. By focusing on key issues like national security, the economy, and immigration, Democrats can position themselves as a viable and attractive option for voters across the country.

What will the party do to win back White voters?
Kari Lake should’ve been elected. AZ election process seems very fishy. Especially when Kari Lake was highly endorsed by Donald Trump. And, he won the State of AZ by a good margin.
They should focus on economy and fight for the common men. If thry dont they will lose big again.
in short, the voice of the leadership does not match the voice of the voter base. until those two voices are reconciled, the party will continue to fail. can the party voice escape the controls of its big money donors? I guess we'll find out soon
This has been explained repeatedly for many years, but the party refused to listen. It’s almost like a decade of criticism is coming back full swing.
The reality is democrats are all talk, no action. The man who beat out Harris actually put the foot down, and the bus stops here.
First words said were nothing to do with the democrat party
They act like elitists and purists…it’s like a high demand religion honestly.
Price aren’t going down and they are getting deported.🤔
Gallego is another Fetterman
They need to triple down on open borders, DEI, lgbtqxyz, running up the U.S. debt to over $ 100 trillion for completely useless programs, propping up NATO for future generations !
Short answer everything.

Gallego is right on the essentials, but Dems real problem is messaging. Most Dems don't support transgenders playing in women's sports, but Trump blanketed the airwaves with ads that said they did, and it paid off. Likewise with other unpopular social positions.
However, candidate quality matters. Dems could change their messaging but would still lose if they run some blue state liberal like Newsom or Pritzker. Only a moderate from a purple or red staye would win.
Shapiro would win by a landslide in 2028 if his message is exclusively focused on how atrocious Trump's economic policies have been and what changes he'd make to help ordinary working people. Almost no voters care that he's Jewish. The mainstream media is gaslighting people into believing otherwise. Beshear could also be a strong candidate. The "radical leftist" attacks would never work on him, considering he's won in a ruby red state. Gallego himself might even be a viable candidate, but he strikes me as more of a VP than a President.
They're never gonna recover from the loss they had during the 2024 election. They're just gonna keep repeating the same mistakes as always and never change a thing.
Voting for anything the GOP wants would be the first thing to come to mind.
Honestly, I think Dems need to stop focusing on border security because it's chasing a fear that's being stoked by the right. Is immigration/border law messy? Sure, but it's not the major problem for normal Americans that conservative xenophobia has pumped it up to be.
Notice how she didnt mention how the laken riley act unconstitutionally deports people who have been ACCUSED but not convicted of a misdemeanor
The real need for middle and low income families is affordable housing (especially in urban and suburban Phoenix). To those families the economy means food and housing. Quit dancing around that.
Basically, democrats bet on supporting uber progressive ideas like BLM, DREAM Act, LGBTQ rights, etc. (abortion rights too, but that is important in my book personally). In reality, most people in the US care about having affordable housing AND healthcare, and earning decent wages (credit to democrats, they fight for the last one, but very weakly/ineffectively by supporting unions, most of which betrayed democrats in 2024 anyway). If democrats could set aside these social injustice issues for now and first take care of fundamental challenges related to living and food first and foremost, they have a path back into power. Otherwise, they'll just keep losing election once every other cycle.
I agree with what this senator is saying. Democrats needs to learn the nuances. They can't assume that all Latino voters will support super-friendly immigration policies (basically, they thought they know what minorities want; turns out that minorities want different thing but in general, minorities have common sense and want to adopt reasonable immigration policies).
By reducing the cost of living, raising the minimum wage, ensuring access to universal healthcare and decommodifying housing?
Focusing on issues only a small minority of voters are really concerned about. Puffing themselves up with self righteous and out of touch assumptions about morality. Supporting their ever louder screeching, psychologically unstable, narrow minded and self absorbed kooks. Ignoring regular people. That’s just the tip of the iceberg
My message to both parties is 'Your problem is that you're letting your crazies define you.' Crazies aren't new in either party. What's new is that the crazies are now driving the bus in both parties. And even when you don't nominate a crazy at the top of the ticket (Biden/Clinton were perceived as moderates), the people see when the crazies tell those moderates what to do and the moderates snap their heels and jump to attention. Biden ran as a moderate, but governed as anything but. And Harris refused to say what she would do differently. And sure, Trump/MAGA are up right now, but it looks likely that 2028 will feature another rebound as we ping pong between the parties, always reacting to the crazy of the last one because after 4 years, we forget why we ponged in whatever direction we did last time.
This crazy-domination is largely due to a set of factors, some new, some not, that came together to make it VERY easy for extremists on either side to coerce moderates by threatening to 'primary' them. Computer-aided gerrymandering has made general elections a non-issue for nearly all politicians. Eliminating soft money sounded like a great idea, but back in the day, soft money most went to challengers and made races more competitive, the alternative is PACs and dark money that tends to demand more ideological purity (and doesn't mind crazy). The splintering and declining standards of media have driven us into echo chambers where journalistic standards of old are openly rejected. The very primary system itself, paired with a first-past-the-post vote system empowers dedicated extremists over candidates who represent the entire electorate.
We're not REALLY going to get out of this hole in the long run unless we demand reforms to those systems and incentives that pervert our candidates. But if you want to end the rollercoaster in the short run, the party that rejects the crazies and goes back to what they were in the 90s is the one that will take over. For the Democrats, the 'Blue Dog' era didn't last very long, but that is how you win. Get candidates who recognize that business is NOT the enemy. You need a productive and profitable private sector to pay for the healthcare and other reforms you want. Do try to protect vulnerable groups, but don't make it weird like you have with some of the extremes. Stop trying to gaslight us into believing that the Obama/Biden economies were so good. We lived through them, we know they weren't. Wages didn't keep up with prices. When you try to tell us how great they were, you lose all credibility.
For Republicans, I'd tell them they're on top for now, but it's not going to last if they keep this up. Tariffs are bad for the economy. Allies DO make us stronger. You're not going to put a dent in the deficit with PR stunts like DOGE, it's going to take meaningful entitlement reform that you've said is off the table. You need to have a serious alternative proposal for healthcare. Just yelling 'Obamacare!' doesn't cut it. Process matters. You all used to understand that, but it seems the new MAGA variant doesn't. How you go about reforming the government matter just as much as WHAT you reform. And for the love of god, can you elect people who actually KNOW SOMETHING about the thing they're going to be doing? Trump and his current cabinet are so massively clueless that it's apalling. Not all Republicans are. Stop electing dummies. Being a dummy isn't an asset!
I agree with him. So would he vote for taxing the rich?
I voted for Harris and am a life long democrat. When I saw the Biden campaign have multiple biological men in dresses in his cabinet I knew 100% the Democratic Party wasn’t capable of winning an election in regards to middle America.
