Yuval Noah Harari: Why advanced societies fall for mass delusion
In his compelling discourse, renowned historian Yuval Noah Harari poses a crucial question: Why do advanced societies often fall for mass delusions? Despite our remarkable intellect, groundbreaking achievements, and advancements—from reaching the moon to deciphering DNA—we stand at the brink of significant self-destruction through ecological collapse and the dangers of uncontrolled artificial intelligence (AI). Harari’s latest book, “Nexus,” delves into this paradox, arguing that the root of our issues lies not within human nature itself but in the information we consume.
He suggests that humans are essentially good and wise, but poor information can lead to disastrous decisions. Exploring the interplay of storytelling and information technology, Harari reveals how mythologies and ideologies have shaped societal cooperations, from ancient civilizations to modern democracies. As AI begins to create narratives and influence society, we face dilemmas about reality’s representation and the integrity of our information systems. Harari stresses the urgent need for robust institutions that embrace self-correcting mechanisms to navigate these complexities and safeguard our future. In an era defined by an influx of information, understanding its nature and truth becomes increasingly critical.

“The problem is in our information. Humans, yes, we are generally good and wise, but if you give good people bad information, they make bad decisions.”
Human history is a paradox: we accumulate knowledge at astonishing speed, while remaining vulnerable to deception, superstition, and the stories that steer entire civilizations.
From the first clay tablets to today’s global media systems, the structures that carry our ideas have always shaped what societies can build, believe, and destroy. That paradox is even more important in the age of AI, says Yuval Noah Harari.

Yuval Noah Hararis belief is to enslave us with support from WEF who support him he is the worst kind of being on earth
Yuval Noah Harari is everything wrong with this world the world is better with out him
Perhaps learning from humans, and made to think human is the inherent flaw of AI.
Go ahead Yuval! 🎉
Very interesting, thank you for the insights Yuval!
Is this a reupload?
You tell people that God gave them such and such land and they'll kill anyone in their path.
There is no "toxic information" just a populace that wasn't taught to think critically. That way any wrong information can be brought to the table and dismissed accordingly.
I swear to God before I clicked on this fucking video I knew this dude was jew.
How many countries have Jews been kicked out of?
Our problem is mainly manipulation of information compounded with intentionally withheld knowledge which has always repeated throughout history by Elite groups of unobtainable wealthy people which is always done by corruption.
In order to make money someone has to be taking a loss to some degree otherwise how would wealth ever be gained? Pretty simple.
People with the Dark Triad personality traits eventually engulf society no matter how many times it gets reset.
Apocalypse = revealing of knowledge (Greek), A history professor doesn’t even know what Apocalypse means? Why would anyone listen to him? PLUS, “We” didn’t accomplish those accomplishments, individual intellects did, mostly Mathematicians, not historians.
It’s not information nor AI -it’s the profit driven mindset to maintain the gripe on power by the financial and corporate establishment! So we are running out of options to keep this dead old system alive
Not sure I’m comfortable with his idea of nationalism. Anytime I hear that word I think about the Nazis. They started out calling themselves nationalist.
Yuval💚🙏🏻✨🌎! An outstanding, amazing human being💫
To explain that most simple: each connection between two words in AI mind is there from reading people. There is nothing non-human in the base..
I do not trust Mythology at all. I simply can not get spiritual about cartoon drawings for gods. Mythology is bad information.
Except for one thing: AI is NOT the alignment problem. Greedy psychopathic billionaires are the problem. Willful ignorance is the problem. Humans are the real alignment problem. Malignant human behaviors are the real problem. A very serious existential problem. Psychopaths cannot be cured and they never change and make things better. It always gets worse when it comes to dysfunctional humans. I know. I grew up in a dysfunctional abusive family. And that is what our species is. One massive giant dysfunctional species. Same problems we've had since ancient Greece Rome or China. Oh well.
5:25 …money. …6:15
Kind of reminds me of the Republic. The parts about stories.
Financial abuse and concetration of money (for capitalist) ending genetic diversity and financial health leaving financial slave's full of hage to kill other's
Now why would i listen to anything this man has to say? he views the other people in the world as scum…. fuck him
Golem
Bunch of Old rich and their filt sons and dauther living 🌎🌎poluted and exploiteded to it's end ((specially gov people)) with absurdity military projects!
When people ask me why I have no hope for the future of humans, i tell them, not at the current heading and velocity. We have near zero chance of survival if we keep doing what we are currently doing as a species. Greed smartphones and billionaires were enough to destroy all humanity. AI? We don't survive to make it to true AI.
2:14 or greeedy capitalismmmm!
THANK YOU KIND JEW FOR TELLING ME THE GOYIM HOW TO THINK!
The irony of an Israhelli man using "ownership of land" to explain the benefits of the invention of writing.
What a useless fraud.
1) AI content was input by a humans
2) Any "historian" willing to entertain the concept of human nature is a cultural chauvinist at best and not a serious scholar.
I would argue that the richest person in the US is no longer a human being – at least not in the way that we still think of as "kind." And until he looks in the mirror and realizes it himself, we are in for one hell of a ride (a metaphor he would undoubtedly appreciate.)
His money story is clearly wrong. Neoclassical twaddle. Money has value in economies with a sovereign currency such as the US, UK, Australia or Japan etc because you need it to pay your taxes. Try paying your US taxes in anything but US dollars or your British taxes in anything but GBP. Sovereign currencies are tax credits and this gives them their value. Ask yourself would you trust in a currency if the issuer just told you to? Tripe!
Answer: you become a parasitic individual, then a culture. You lose your humanity because the material world is everything. You justify killing because you were once wronged. You become a genocidal death cult.
Harari is very good at naming the problem, but deeply dishonest about where the solution should come from. In this talk he says some things that are technically right – that humans run on stories more than raw facts, that AI is now able to generate its own stories and strategies, and that bots and algorithms can hijack democratic conversation. He also has a valid point that truth is not just “more information”, but a rare and expensive form of information that takes work and institutions to produce.
But look at what he quietly smuggles in with that story. When an Israeli historian who is personally embedded in the academic and media elite stands on stage and says “the answer is to trust universities and serious newspapers,” he erases the fact that these same institutions have spent decades laundering state violence and colonial projects – including in the coverage of Israel/Palestine. These are not neutral “truth engines”; they are power structures with very specific loyalties.
The hypocrisy becomes glaring when you put this talk next to his public comments on Gaza. The same Harari who lectures the world about “truth” and “post-truth” has repeatedly dismissed accusations of genocide in Gaza as antisemitic propaganda, even as independent investigators and human rights bodies describe systematic mass killing, starvation and displacement. In that situation, his insistence on “nuance”, “both sides” and abstract reflections about victims and perpetrators stops being thoughtful and becomes a very concrete political act: a Zionist framing that protects a colonial state from responsibility while people are being annihilated.
So yes, we absolutely should be critical of AI-generated propaganda and fake human accounts. But we should be at least as critical of the old information networks Harari wants to place on a pedestal – universities, legacy media, expert classes – especially when they have already failed the people who are being bombed, occupied and expelled. When someone like Harari presents himself as a guardian of truth while defending or downplaying the crimes of his own state, that isn’t courage or honesty. It’s moral cowardice dressed up as intellectual seriousness, and it is exactly the kind of polished, elite narrative-making that keeps real accountability out of reach. FUCK THIS GUY!
The supreme court of the U.S. has no real self-correcting mechanism.
Your trying to understand two things at once AI vs Human. Pick one.
An ISRAELI talking about the collapse of truth 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
You can't make this stuff up!
Thanks for this video, this is such a topical and highly relevant issue right now
AI has extremely high military potential. No one is stopping until we get AGI. This is a new Cold War, but with much more money and higher stakes.
So intellectual a man!
Ooohh I bet the billionaires didn't think about how they could be beat out by the one thing they invented
as an audio beat maker and mixer, yuval has a lot of reverb and imho it can be a bit distracting on headphones, for example. no shade tho fantastic as always 🖤
But this Information is very important! Thank you very much
I wonder if Yuval realizes he is too is telling a story. It's not like he has some special access to the truth.
AI, language, a knife,… they are all tools. It is the mind of those who use it the one that gives them meaning.
Humans are adaptive creatures, evolutionarily shaped by environments where intelligence or wisdom are not always an asset. For example, in extreme situations (such as wars or natural disasters), survival instincts, emotions, or even "stupidity" (in the sense of impulsiveness) can ensure survival better than rational analysis. Harari ignores the fact that intelligence can be a trap – for example, excessive rationalization leads to decision-making paralysis, and hyper-intellectualism leads to detachment from reality. No one knows whether intelligence will guarantee the survival of the species in the future; evolution shows that simple organisms (like bacteria) survived for billions of years, while intelligent species became extinct. This is controversial, but worth discussing – intelligence can be a hindrance because it complicates adaptation, creating problems that simpler creatures do not face (e.g., nuclear weapons or the climate crisis are products of our intelligence).
"intelligence" and "autonomy" are separate concepts. I worker bee or a soldier ant do not aspire to become queens and found their own colonies.
The distinction lies in the basic drives guiding action selection, not in the "quality of information", "intellectual capacity", "computational power", or "available knowledge".
"Stories" are secondary to basic drives, especially if you are concerned about "A.I. outgrowing its creator".
The real danger is not autonomous AI, but evil men made unstoppably powerful by the AI that they control.
The last point is OVERWHELMINGLY important. The online world is a firehose of information, and too many people think they can just guzzle it down unfiltered without repercussions. We aren't as smart as we think we are for filtering the deluge of slop out there. An information diet is needed, and AI might actually be able to assist with that.
So Donald Hoffman was right. Reality is a lie. Only in the final words does Yuval Harari say that we should go on an information diet and stop consuming junk that stimulates hate… He could have said that earlier.
Maslow nailed it decades ago.
36:00 shocking! Globalist leftist is pro nationalism.
I'm still wondering how all christians know Jesus had six pack abs??? Or maybe, that was simply made up by clergy, priests, bishops and popes, men, who like six pack abs.
