Singh urges sanctions and a ban on Hindu-nationalist paramilitary group RSS to address Canada-India tensions.

The tension between Canada and India has escalated as New Democrat Party Leader Jagmeet Singh called for sanctions on Indian diplomats and a ban on the Rashtriya Swayamsevek Sangh (RSS), a Hindu-nationalist volunteer paramilitary group with close ties to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Singh emphasized the need to take the RCMP’s exposure of a serious threat seriously and act accordingly to keep Canadians safe. Ottawa’s decision to expel six Indian diplomats in response to a targeted campaign against Canadian citizens led to India retaliating by withdrawing its envoy from Canada and expelling six Canadian diplomats.

Singh also urged Conservative Party Leader Pierre Poilievre to obtain security clearance and convey a united front in response to the situation. He emphasized the importance of not turning a blind eye to the alleged criminal activities orchestrated by agents of the Indian government. The call for sanctions and a ban on the RSS highlights the growing tensions between the two countries and the need for decisive action to address the current situation.
