Head of UN Agency Calls for Temporary Truce in Northern Gaza: FRANCE 24 English

The United Nations Palestinian refugee agency, UNRWA, has issued a plea for a temporary truce in northern Gaza to allow civilians to evacuate the area amidst a severe humanitarian crisis. Health officials are reporting a shortage of supplies to treat the growing number of casualties resulting from the three-week-old Israeli offensive.

Philippe Lazzarini, the head of UNRWA, has described the situation as dire, with bodies left abandoned on roadsides and buried under rubble. The agency is urgently appealing for a ceasefire to facilitate the safe exit of residents from the conflict zone.

This call comes as tensions continue to escalate in the region, with ongoing violence and destruction causing immense suffering to the civilian population. The need for a temporary truce is critical in order to address the immediate humanitarian needs and prevent further loss of life.

FRANCE 24’s Irris Makler, reporting from Jerusalem, highlights the urgency of the situation and the importance of international intervention to address the escalating crisis in Gaza.

The escalating violence in the region underscores the urgent need for a peaceful resolution to the conflict and a renewed commitment to humanitarian efforts to alleviate the suffering of the civilian population.
