Canada has spent decades building cars for American automakers. Now Canadian engineers are experimenting with an electric vehicle platform unlike almost anything being developed by the traditional auto industry.
The vehicle is called Vector, part of Canada’s Project Arrow. Instead of relying entirely on the stamped and welded structures found in conventional cars, Vector uses an AI-designed structure with major sections produced through advanced 3D printing. The goal is to put material only where the vehicle needs it, reduce unnecessary weight, and explore a manufacturing process that could make complicated automotive structures easier to develop.
In this documentary, we explore how Project Arrow works, why more than 80 Canadian companies and partners contributed to the program, and how Vector combines additive manufacturing with a 650-horsepower electric powertrain, an estimated 550-kilometer range, and advanced autonomous technology.
We also look at Borealis, Canada’s more ambitious research platform aimed toward 2040, with an AI-designed 3D-printed metal architecture, a 1,500-kilometer range target, and plans to explore Level 5 autonomous driving.
Neither vehicle is meant to become Canada’s answer to Tesla. The bigger goal is to give Canadian battery companies, software developers, material suppliers, and manufacturers a complete vehicle where they can prove technologies that could eventually appear inside production cars around the world.
