China has called on the UK to treat Chinese companies fairly after the British government intervened in the management of the Scunthorpe steelworks. The move to take control of the steel plant was prompted by concerns that the Chinese owners may not keep the plant operational, potentially endangering jobs and increasing the UK’s reliance on Chinese imports.
According to reports from The Times, there were fears that the Chinese company planned to undermine the Scunthorpe site to drive up demand for cheaper Chinese steel. This development has raised alarms about Chinese involvement in critical infrastructure projects in the UK, including nuclear power plants.
The tensions between Chinese firms and the UK government highlight ongoing concerns about foreign ownership and control of key industries. The call from China for fair treatment underscores the importance of maintaining transparent and equitable business practices between nations.
As the UK grapples with economic challenges and the need to protect its domestic industries, the issue of foreign ownership and influence will continue to be a contentious issue. The government’s decision to intervene in the management of the Scunthorpe steelworks reflects the delicate balance between protecting national interests and fostering international cooperation in the global marketplace.

The Chinese have made a brand new steel works ready to produce the steel Britain needs.
Trouble is they built it in china !
Then when the British government offered them tax payers money to upgrade the steel works in Britain they weren't interested.
It was a clear attempt to destroy British steel industry and now they talk about being treated fairly !
Clearly Trump is right China is everyone's enemy.
REASONS NOT TO TREAT CHINA 'FAIRLY'…………………………
PEKING POWER TRAP AND THREAT TO GLOBAL STABILITY
Occupation and Chinafication of Tibet
Annexation of border territory and intimidation of Bhutan state
occupation and intimidation over parcel & Spratly island chains in S. China Sea
Island building and military base/airfield construction(s) throughout
Chinafication of Turkic and Muslim peoples in Sinkiang and east
Chinafication of minority peoples in Outer Mongolia and other regions in mainland China periphery
Irresponsible use of Carbon energy and water creating desertification especially in poor regions
Exploitation, intimidation and blackmail of water access to SE Asia states from Tibetan plateaux
occupation and conflict of Arundel Pradesh and other India border regions
Wolf Warrior diplomacy towards poorer countries
Undersea sabotage throughout world of communication lines will become increasingly frequent
Belt & Road strategy utilising increasing debt trap diplomacy to exploit concessions from poorer states (e.g. Ceylon port access)
Tech theft from west & particularly USA
threats and claim to Taiwan, over which CCP China has NEVER had control, legacy of China Civil War never ended
Gunboat diplomacy, repeated ‘exercises’ (rehearsals) for blockade/invasion around Taiwan
claims on Arctic territory they have no access or right to, increasing number of naval deployments, plans to open new trade routes to avoid Taiwan Strait vulnerability
miliary naval build up, you do not build aircraft carriers unless you want to PROJECT power
naval wargames off coast of Australia and other blue water operations beyond China Seas
Tonkin gulf re-drawing well established maritime maps to lay claim on Vietnamese waters
increasing manufacture of military aircraft & ballistic missiles with ever increasing range increasingly deployed aggressively
military exercises depicting locations in Taiwan and other targets dress rehearsal
Construction huge Bunkers in China heartland to protect elite and comm’s, you don’t build Bunkers unless you’re fear threat of attack (invading Taiwan would do it)!
construction of barges for cross channel transportation (Hitler & Napoleon did this for planned invasion of England) you don't build these unless you plan to use them
demographic decline, high youth unemployment and disenfranchised poor, encourage CCP to direct them to external ‘enemy’ threat
Unfair trade practices as member of WTO abusing position and membership rules repeatedly
anti-western propaganda, state controlled media and restricted access to global news, facts and information
Hacking and other hybrid practices against Western democracies
economic structural problems encourage CCP to directing populous anger to an external 'enemy' threat
Increasingly amount of stockpiling of key resources and food to sustain war footing in the event sea trade restricted in a time of war
Xi getting older and wants to leave legacy of a 'united' China before he dies, Taiwan here I come
…………………..AND MANY MANY MANY MORE REASONS…………..WEST WOULD BE WISE TO DISTANCE THERE ECONOMIC, POLITICAL & MILITARY TIES TO CHINA
we can make our own tatt, we don't really need theirs, we didn't buy it in the 60s, so obviously we could do without it now.
Pardon
am rooting for china
To me this has nothing to do with the Chinese, the root of the problem is allowing any foreign power to control critical sectors of the country. Why was the Chinese allowed to buy a steel company that is situated in the u.k in the first place. I still don’t understand how our water suppliers can be owned by foreigners as well.
There is NO such thing as "private enterprise" in China. The government owns everything and all companies MUST have party members on the board, by law. Also, they were running it in bad faith and would have just stolen any money and shut the furnaces down anyway.
So a country with slave labour in the production chain tells UK to treat them fairly 😂😂😂
Need to also look at the capital investors that gutted British Steel after it acquired them and dumped them on to the next seller like they did with every other company they "acquire"; however not deflecting from what China's actions could have intentional been.
Yeah Britain should treat them like people it'd be a blow to UK-China relationships if they unfairly treat them and in a world where our greatest two future enemies are Russia and The United States we need to maintain friendly ties with China
Time for UK government to regrow a backbone.
convenient isn't it that China wants to close the furnace in UK, after all its competition to there own cheap steel flooding UK market over last decade eroding own capacity to produce steel!!!………………….UK GOVERNMENT AS DONE NOTHING TO TOP THIS………………..STUPID………….STUPID……………STUPID!!!
"Fairly"😂
Like the Chinese treat anything fairly, all they do is manipulate and steal.
China… the majority deals made between you and a political party that lost to biblical proportions… their voice and validity was lost upon "obscure win"…
"Labour" will stab you in the back as much as its citizens (example "G gangs" and "disability allowance/winter payments" so the government has more money for personal duck ponds and meals…)
Make no trades with starmer… he will be out this time and his works revoked.. (out by awokened people or by "independants" that have been granted voting rights under his rule.. either or.. either way.. stick with security from the east and not "false gold" from the west… its your safest bet)
Its part of the owners to ensure that the company keeps the equipment that they need to run the business
Cause they treated America fairly
China has been busy for almost 40 years buying UK companies up then slowly closing them down and moving production to China, it's been organised by the Chinese government and enacted by companies under the veil of the government, the idea is to remove competition and then flood our markets with cheap imitations, which may sound OK, if your job is a buyer, down side is the original item may have lasted say 6 or 7 years before being replaced you will be lucky if it survives 2 and the next purchase the price will have been bumped up, wash and repeat, I'm guessing they had the same plan here, however if we need steel for building and construction and we end up with substandard material who are we going to blame when it fails? So it's long overdue for the UK government to step in, and help protect jobs and in some cases lives, this should now be a whole lot easier since we left the constraints of the EU
good, we are finally growing a spine
if you came to UK you would feel like you are in china, or afghanistan, or somewhere in jamaica 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
Hay China. the only threat you have and it ain't the uk. you need to worry about Donald Trump. hes your biggest threat. Donald Trump is the sort of person to start a WAR over the least little thing.
This is a blatant act of war and supporting the Russians and England are a bunch of pussies for even allowing it to happen.
Don’t worry China; our government would happily feed us into your machinery if it made you even slightly happy.
Why have we allowed Chinato take over so many firms here in Britain !!!!
This is all well and good but what about port talbot ????
If china let the uk government have it for a quid..they'd fail..
The Chinese shouldn't own any British companies
The UK has no power or influence anymore. What are they thinking??
😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅
Imagine China, one of the most economically protectionist countries in the world saying that. It's literally illegal for westerners to own land or factories in China. The hypocrisy is incredible.
Does this mean we are going to get rich
