Can Europe Replace America’s F-35 Fighter Jet?
In a landscape where air superiority has become synonymous with military strength, the F-35 fighter jet has long stood as a symbol of American dominance. Developed at a staggering cost, the F-35 has proven instrumental for U.S. forces, not just in achieving military objectives but also in generating billions in trade. However, recent political shifts, particularly under former President Trump, have raised questions about the sustainability of this dominance.
The Wall Street Journal delves into this critical issue in its video report, "Can Europe Replace America’s F-35 Fighter Jet?" The program outlines the changing dynamics of global military aviation and the potential for European rivals to fill the void.
The F-35 Program
The video begins with an overview of the F-35 program, highlighting its multifaceted capabilities that have allowed the U.S. to maintain a leading edge in aerial combat. With its stealth features and advanced technology, the F-35 has captivated not only the U.S. military but also several allied nations that depend on American military support.
What Buying an F-35 Means
Next, the report elaborates on the implications of purchasing an F-35. For many countries, acquiring this fighter jet has become a strategic necessity, tying them closer to U.S. military interests. However, uncertainty generated by political rhetoric can disrupt this relationship, compelling allies to reassess their options.
Trump’s Attacks and Europe’s Response
The focus then shifts to the impact of Trump’s criticism of NATO and U.S. allies. The video explains how such sentiments have prompted nations to consider alternatives, eyeing European-developed jets. Countries that previously leaned heavily on U.S. technology are now contemplating a shift, leading to a re-evaluation of defense expenditure and strategy.
European Rival Jets
Despite the F-35’s advanced features, the report sheds light on formidable competitors emerging from Europe. The U.K. and EU’s Eurofighter, France’s Rafale, and Sweden’s Gripen are all highlighted as potential alternatives, each offering unique capabilities that could meet the needs of European nations seeking independence from American defense systems.
F-35 Challenges Ahead
Finally, the video addresses the challenges facing the F-35 program itself. Issues like maintenance costs, technical glitches, and geopolitical tensions could threaten its status as the go-to fighter jet. As Europe looks to bolster its own defense capabilities, the future of the F-35 may be at a crossroads.
In summary, as European nations reassess their military needs amid changing political landscapes, the question remains: can Europe effectively replace this iconic American fighter jet? The Wall Street Journal’s incisive analysis provides a timely exploration of the shifting tides in military aviation, laying bare the implications for global security dynamics.

No. Next question.
Iran just took at least one down. No one wants to buy them anymore, and the ones who already own them want to get rid of them.
Over time radar technology improves.
The F117 came out has been known about for decades and so there will have been massive developments in radar technology detecting stealth aircraft since that F117 was known about.
Iran are currently getting hit by F35 jets, and Iran has very close military and political relationships with Russia. So in effect Russia will have very good knowledge of what the F35 will look like on a radar system. OK they can't hit it yet, but scientific research starts with getting some data. So Russia will be able to hit the current form of the F35 once they have analysed the data from Iran. And Russia's stealth programme is pathetic, but it does exist. So there are engineers in Russia who know how to detect a stealth aircraft (use long wave, although you loose accuracy), and now these engineers have massive amount of data about the F35 from Iranian radar.
With what? the french airplanes that were shot down by Chinese copycats?.
For europes fate…we better be ❤ usa under trump can not be trusted
Of course. The Gripen is well on its way with new collaborations and systems to excel the F35 and be a next generation fighter.
F35 betray Turkiye as one of co-initiator, now Turkiye produce own jets n drones
There may not be a Kill Switch installed NOW.
But
The US having that option is only one software update away…!
what cost??
okay us is cooked
eisenhower was right
Just wait for that Boeing F-47 and they will all change their minds😅😅
Not at this current time, some exciting things in the works. But as of right now, the F-35 is the best option for many, not everyone, but most.
The USAF last day just HALFED its projected F 35 order for this year..in eecent purchase list….
SO INDIA WILL BUY SU-57 instead of dictatorship USA produced junks like F-35😂
kind of a pointless question isnt it? at this point us controled weapons are worthless, so weither or not you can replace them makes no difference, buying them is a no go.
😂😂😂 already 4 has been shot down.one female pilot captured in iran and the othe in iraq the two crushed in Persian gulf.no western media announced this
Any country in their right mind should be looking at fighter jet alternatives – what type of “ally” installs a backdoor to your jets???
Iran down 3 F35, 😂
yes. they can.
Why would they bother paying for their own defense when the US will do it for them? lol
These flying pieces of unrelyable junk? Easily.
F-35 is so Stealthy that no one knows when it will be ready, what it will cost or how obsolete it will be
Very hush hush
Biggest reason – F-35's comes with kill switch
Can Europe get Samarium from China?
Didn't European Rafale got shot down by Chinese J10 in India? Europe can never replace F35 because US is leader in science and technology
3 down by Iranian Defence System.
F-35 seems to be working quite well in Tehran
Should've kept the F-22 in production AND upgraded the sensors and integrated them. Like restomodding the F-22.
Isn't they have best Jet such as Rafael and eurofighter ? So..
