Global National: June 20, 2025 – Banff Rockslide Not “Foreseeable or Preventable,” Parks Canada Says
A tragic incident has unfolded in Banff National Park, where the body of a second victim has been recovered following a sudden rockslide that occurred on Thursday. In an unexpected turn of events, three additional individuals sustained injuries and remain hospitalized. Authorities report that they do not believe any further victims are unaccounted for, as the search for missing persons came to a close.
The landslide, which caught many off guard, raises questions about safety and monitoring practices within the national park. Parks Canada has stated that the event was “not foreseeable or preventable,” a claim that invites scrutiny and calls for a deeper examination of environmental assessments in such vulnerable areas.
Elsewhere in the world, tensions are escalating in the Middle East as U.S. President Donald Trump considers a potential military response to Iran. Trump, who aims for a peaceful resolution but keeps military options on the table, has indicated he will decide within two weeks whether to join Israel in taking action against Iran. This stance follows conflicting statements from National Intelligence Director Tulsi Gabbard, who asserted back in March that U.S. intelligence agencies believed Iran had not made the decision to pursue nuclear weapon development.
In response, Iran’s foreign minister has expressed the country’s openness to diplomatic dialogue; however, he has firmly conditioned these discussions on a halt to Israeli attacks. This development comes after a meeting in Geneva that included European foreign ministers, underscoring the international community’s ongoing efforts to de-escalate the volatile situation. Unfortunately, no breakthrough was achieved, and the path to renewed negotiations remains fraught with challenges.
On the domestic front, Prime Minister Mark Carney has celebrated a significant legislative victory with the passage of Bill C-5, known as the One Canadian Economy Act. This controversial bill grants the federal government extensive powers to expedite the approval of infrastructure projects. Critics have voiced concerns over the potential implications for environmental oversight and public consultation, highlighting the need for a balanced approach to economic development that does not sacrifice ecological integrity.
As these stories unfold, the nation remains focused on the impact of recent events, from the tragic loss in Banff to the rising geopolitical tensions that could reshape international relations.

Mark Carney – just taking from Pollievre playbook here

Canadians are staying home because the majority of us are broke.
Trump needs to seriously stop and thing about being drawn into this war. He don’t believe his own people assessment so who is he getting his information from and is that information based on the truth or some fabricated information to suite another’s objective. It’s very scary and a lot of lives will be lost so making a decision must be taken on known facts …. He needs to focus on getting aid into Gaza for the civilians are being starved to death and many children are suffering and the world is not ok with this and he will be faced with this many years and will be in the history as doing nothing when he has the power to do something about getting more food and medical aid into Gaza.
Iran has not always rejected the directive to keep enrichment to just a few percent. There was an agreement under Obama that kept enrichment low (among other things) in exchange for easing of sanctions. Trump tore that up, so Iran started enriching to around 60% (allowed under the NPT that Iran has signed on to) probably as a negotiating tactic.
My friend is a geologist and we hike a lot together. He has told me multiple times how our beloved Rockies are basically built of shale and limestone which is “soft” and easily fractured rock. Just look around. You can’t swing a cat without hitting a rock fall. It is just sad that people were killed and injured. The chances are very, very, very low of being caught up in one if you pay attention and be careful where you hike. Just enjoy the beauty of our Rockies.
Bibi, Trump – you must act now
Why is Global News trying so hard to convince us that Iran MAY have nukes in the near, distant or sometime soon future??
Donald Trump has no intelligence, he's proved this time and time again 😂🤣🫵🇺🇲
The deaths in Gaza are the direct result of it's citizens voting for Hamas. Canadians have welcomes Jews from around the globe here on our soil with zero problems. Now, between woke universities and Islamic immigration, we have protestors on our streets pushing hate. Thank you Liberal party of Canada. Your coverage here about this issue is not balanced. It's unfair and politicized.
Hey, Global, there's no "conflict" between Iran and Israel. Stop gaslighting your viewers. There's an armed aggression of Israel against Iran. It is Israel, a monoethnic, appartheid state that's carrying out genocide within its own borders and waging wars in other territories (Syria) that actually has nuclear weapons.
