Gazans Return Home: Will the Ceasefire Hold?
On October 10, 2025, a fragile sense of hope hung in the air as thousands of displaced Palestinians began to return to Gaza City, following the implementation of a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. As Israeli forces withdrew from major urban areas within Gaza, many residents felt a mix of relief and apprehension. The ceasefire comes in the wake of significant turmoil, marked by years of conflict that have left the region scarred and reeling.
For many Gazans, the act of returning home was filled with emotional weight. Many found their residences in ruins, while others discovered their homes largely intact. Despite the destruction, there was a palpable sense that this moment offered a much-needed reprieve. Communities that had been fractured were now attempting to rebuild not just their homes, but also their lives. The resilience of the Gazan people was on full display as families began to reestablish their daily routines, seeking to find a sense of normalcy amid the uncertainty.
However, the return to Gaza City does not come without its own concerns. While armed forces are still visible within the enclave, residents are anxious about whether this ceasefire can hold. Questions loom over the potential for future clashes and whether the peace can be sustained long enough for meaningful dialogue to emerge. For Gazans, the hope is simple: they seek security for their families and a future devoid of violence.
Meanwhile, in Israel, the atmosphere is similarly tense. As families await the return of loved ones taken hostage during the October 7 attacks two years prior, the emotional burden weighs heavily on many. The desire for peace is palpable, but uncertainty prevails over the safety and well-being of hostages. Both sides are navigating the complexity of emotions tied to this ceasefire, striving for a resolution that feels increasingly elusive.
In the midst of their respective challenges, Israelis and Palestinians are making the most of this temporary peace. The newfound calm offers a glimmer of hope for both communities, even as questions linger about the longevity of the truce. As Vincent McAviney reports, the days ahead may prove critical, as both sides grapple with the realities of their shared history and the urgent need for a sustainable future.

The Israeli–Palestinian conflict is often presented as a modern dispute – a 20th-century clash between two contemporary rivals. However, the roots of the conflict stretch far back nearly two millennia. This forgotten timeline – from the Roman invasion and expulsion of Jews to the United Nations' Partition Plan of 1947 – shows how history shaped this most complicated of disputes of the modern world.
Roman Judaea: Where The Story Begins
Judaea had been home to the Jewish people for centuries. However, following the Roman conquest in 136 AD and the renaming of the region as Syria Palaestina, many Jews were either killed or enslaved and dispersed across the Empire. However, not all left. Small Jewish communities remained in Galilee, Jerusalem and other parts of the land, maintaining a small but continued presence.
For the diaspora, the memory of Jerusalem and the promise of return never faded. They were in exile but it never became complete severance.
The Rise Of Christianity
The Judaic exile and the rise of Christianity happened almost simultaneously. When the Roman Empire adopted Christianity as its state religion in the 4th Century, Palestine – where Bethlehem, the birthplace of Jesus Christ – is located, became a revered land. Over time, churches, monasteries and Christian communities spread throughout the region, transforming the Holy Land into a major centre of pilgrimage.
However, this growing presence of Christianity did not erase the Jewish ties to the land. Instead, it imbued the land with yet another cultural and spiritual layer – one whose echoes would resonate across centuries.
The Islamic Conquest And Arabisation
In 638 AD, Jerusalem was brought under Islamic rule by the invading Muslim armies. For centuries afterwards, Palestine was ruled by a succession of Islamic caliphates, dynasties and ultimately the Turkish Ottoman Empire.
This meant a new change in the way of living for the Jewish and Christian populations of the region. While the Jews and Christians were considered "People of the Book" and allowed to practise their faiths, there were restrictions.
Over time, the region became increasingly Arab and Muslim in identity. However, the Jews still maintained continued presence in areas like Jerusalem, Hebron, Tiberias and Safed.
The Muslims established the Dome of the Rock and the al-Aqsa mosque on the Temple Mount – the holiest site in Judaism, where the First and the Second Temple once stood. In modern times, the Temple Mount has seen intense clashes between Jews and Palestinians, with some Jewish groups calling for the removal of the Dome of the Rock and construction of the Third Temple.

There will never ever be peace in the Middle East. That is why the book of Revelations exists. Armageddon will be the final solution.
Even God is pissed off
Thank God for all the ways to evade taxes.
"The art of no deal" by Mark Carney.

I love this news show! I am hopeful Trump can make a Peace deal and end the war. I still don't like Trump. He's so mean and nasty to Canada and his own people. But Peace should be the goal and the way of everyone. Like, treat others how you would like to be treated by others.
Congratulations to the only candidate deserving of the Nobel Peace Prize.
School food programs won't change grocery prices.

The poor and forgotten have to be No. 1 priority; just make sure they are self-sufficient afterwards!…
poor archaic country
Carney's announcements have done NOTHING for low income seniors as usual! The Liberals have not brought our OAS and CPP up to par with inflation for ten years now! It's a disgrace! Expecting them to live on $1000.00 to $1500.00 a month does not even put a roof over their head, let alone pay for bills or food. Let's see them try to live on that!
Meanwhile they give themselves huge salaries and outrageous pensions.
Why do they continue to neglect seniors, instead of doubling their pensions so they can survive?
I hope that Palestinians will denounce hamas and join Israel in peace.
Free Israel 🇮🇱🙏🇵🇸
Sadly all this does not look that good! Only Enemy’s of Peace will continue to prosper!
Jesus is coming soon! Get your House in order!❤️🙏
CANADA 🇨🇦 POST 📫?
EXTINCTION!!!
Carney's plan will be great for low income people, I am a retired grandmother raising and supporting my grandchild who is autistic and this will help me in paying for programs without worrying about food costs. AMEN
!! nituP gnaH
Yaaay! Neetu is back!!!
Hope Hamas will not start another confrontation, there was a cease fire agreement in place till October 6, then Hamas broke it with a barbarian brutality surpassing the Nazis!!
8:50 HIGH INCOME?! FUNCTIONAL HEALTHCARE?! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
ceasefire an withdrawal is for 1 thing …hostage swaps ..israel is already blocking 600,000 palestinians an is still dropping bombs
I totally expect every liberal to thank Trump for this…..
Gee Global. Why did you not mention that over 50 percent of job gains were in the “public” sector. Oh yea – funded by the Liberals
Thinking here. My natural gas bill to heat my home…The CARBON TAX was MORE than the gas I PURCHASED to heat my home. GRIFTER!!!
Finally you guys can start focus on other stuff other then terror
I pray for the Palestinian people to recover all their lands, build a strong country, recognized by the whole world. And for Israel to no longer pose a threat to them. ✌️🇵🇸✌️🇵🇸
The truth always hurts global’s feelings. Frantic moderators, trying to get rid of any sliver of reality. Live in your liberal bubble.
I still remember when somebody spray-painted “eat the rich“ right across the street from your studios years ago. You guys probably haven’t forgotten it either. I still drive by sometimes and look for it.. it’s pretty sick. How global is the mouthpiece of the government. News should not be like that. The government should be afraid of the news. The news is afraid of the government now.
How come the segment about the nobel prize was not about the person who won? How come you can start a headline saying it was not the expected outcome? And use half of the time to talk about trump opinion? It was a excellent choice and very meaningful, please redo your reporting and contribute to promote these voices of the world.
The school Food program is a scam. All the government is trying to do is make you rely on them for more things that you don’t need. People are willing to work, but the government won’t let people work because of the temporary foreign worker program. The government is trying to control all of its Canadian citizens and it’s sad that the majority of people don’t see that they still believe that the liberal governments helping Canadians when the liberal government is making Canadians worse.
