Paris will be hosting the 2024 Olympic Games, and the organizers are making headlines for their commitment to gender equality. For the first time in Olympic history, the Games will feature equal representation of women and men in all aspects. But do these Games truly deserve a gold medal for parity?
Former French Olympic champion and sports minister, Roxana Maracineanu, weighs in on the issue, offering her perspective on the significance of this milestone. In a conversation with Annette Young, Maracineanu discusses the importance of gender equality in sports and the impact it can have on athletes, spectators, and society as a whole.
One of the issues highlighted in this discussion is the prevalence of sexist attitudes in women’s sportswear. Many fashion designers and brands continue to produce clothing that objectifies female athletes or fails to meet their practical needs. This perpetuates harmful stereotypes and reinforces the idea that women’s sports are less important or deserving of respect than men’s.
Another complex issue explored in the interview is the participation of transgender athletes in the Olympics. As discussions around gender identity and inclusivity continue to evolve, the question of how to ensure fair competition for all athletes has become increasingly important. Maracineanu offers insights on the challenges and opportunities that come with creating a more inclusive and equitable sports environment.
As Paris prepares to host the 2024 Olympics, the spotlight is on the city’s commitment to gender equality and diversity. While there is still much work to be done, the efforts being made by the organizers and advocates like Maracineanu are a step in the right direction. The world will be watching as these Games strive to set a new standard for equality in sports.

So stunning and brave !!!🤡🤡
I'm really hoping they add beauty pageants and recipes… for men and women.
I cannot understand why women who play beach volley wear bikini bottoms that barely cover their modesty, whilst men are in shorts.
Also, keep women's events for women, men's for men. For trans , there should be a 3rd way.
