Nearly nine years after Jessie Simpson was brutally beaten into a coma with a baseball bat in Kamloops, British Columbia, his mother, Susanna Simpson, is still fighting for justice. Despite a court ruling awarding her son $7 million in 2021, the family has yet to see a single cent of that settlement money.
The attacker, Kristopher Teichrieb, pleaded guilty to aggravated assault in connection with the horrific incident. He was sentenced to seven years in prison, but has been out on statutory release since 2021. This has only added to the frustration and pain felt by the Simpson family, who continue to seek closure and financial compensation for the suffering their son endured.
Susanna Simpson was back in court on Monday, determined to fight for what is rightfully owed to her son. The ongoing delays and obstacles in receiving the settlement money have only added to the family’s anguish, as they are left grappling with the physical, emotional, and financial repercussions of the attack.
Global News’ Angela Jung has been following the Simpson family’s story closely, shedding light on their ongoing battle for justice and closure. The fight for settlement money is not just about financial compensation for the family, but about holding the perpetrator accountable and seeking a sense of closure and justice for Jessie Simpson.
As the legal proceedings continue, the Simpson family remains steadfast in their determination to see justice served and to finally receive the settlement money that was awarded to Jessie in 2021. The journey towards closure and healing is far from over for the family, but they continue to persevere in their fight for justice.

That murderer should be jailed for life.. what a f..c’n law!!!!
That's awful. I wonder if he thought the kid was a thief.
I would understand if it was a full-grown man on his property at night , but this was a teenager . The man clearly knew he was beating a kid half to death after the first hit .
Not the whole story. He didn’t stumble onto his property. They were causing damage that night
Canada is seriously broken, people have to protect themselves with their own means.
People should have the right to defend home and property.
This is one sided. Those teens caused a ton of damage that night
17 years old boy got beat with baseball bat from the older one??
I knew someone who was hit hard in the head while bicycling past a crazy teenager in Chicago. He was in a coma, then a medically induced coma. Eventually after he was discharged he had to have rehab to relearn things we take for granted. He still isn't 😢able to function fully.
NDP-Liberal Canada, criminals live their best lives while the rest just prays
Absolutely abhorrent! That’s all I got, there really are no words. How is this man out? How has not a dime gotten to this victim! How was the house not seized and sold? How?
People dont just attack people for absolutely no reason…He was technically 18 years old when this happened, which means he’s a man at that point. Was he doing something he shouldn’t have done on someone else’s property ?
so the guilty can go out and live his life and this poor boy can't even go anywhere in a handicapped vehicle because his mom has no money to buy one.?? this is sick!!
Was this self defense or some hillbilly "get off my lawn" moment?
strictest liberal judge in Canada:
this is disgusting. he should be in jail for life. our system is terrible!!!!!
🌹 🙏
Pain begets pain. I understand we all want to inflict more pain on the perpetrator for just us. To the point we become the perpetrator taking pleasure in his pain as he did.
Understand the perpetrator was in pain to cause this extreme suffering as well. To heal and bring justice we all need to learn and understand these mechanisms so things don't keep perpetuating more violence into the future. As society is now.
Impossible as it seems the perpetrator has to be allowed to assist in rehabilitating the victim, so they can both heal and be rehabilitated. Fully understanding each other's pain and suffering.
For giving or for getting is our choice. Extremely difficult to do, I know.❤
Bikers with baseball bats, property, and expensive lawyers. Two tiered Canadian justice system.
Its the governments fault the guy that attacked Jessie. The guy was enraged because his property was stolen multiple occasions before this! I am not saying what the guy did was justified it was excessive but honestly the attacker in this case was a victim of crime himself and fed up. He did serve his jail time.
The system, it doesnt care about us
Everything about this story is disgusting.
You are an amazing mother.
Shame on Canadian Law Makers. Encouragers n Proponents of Violence
I would have saved him but the laws don't help the victims :/
This is what you get voting for Libs and NDP.
Feel sorry for the family.
