Decarbonized Oil in Canada’s “Best Interest”: Carney Talks Pipelines After Meeting with Premiers
In a significant meeting held in Saskatoon on Tuesday, Prime Minister Mark Carney, alongside Canada’s 13 provincial and territorial premiers, emphasized the importance of decarbonizing the country’s oil and gas production. Carney’s remarks suggested that pursuing a low-carbon future could be advantageous for Canada, marking a pivotal moment in Canada’s energy discourse.
The discussions come at a time when energy strategies are under scrutiny, and there is a pressing need to balance environmental responsibility with economic viability. Acknowledging the critical role that oil and gas play in Canada’s economy, the leaders outlined a commitment to accelerate what they termed "nation-building" projects. While a new pipeline remains high on the agenda for several premiers, specific details regarding the selected projects were notably withheld from the public.
Alberta Premier Danielle Smith expressed optimism in light of the Liberal government’s evolving stance on energy production. She highlighted the potential shift towards an "energy superpower" narrative, which resonates deeply with Alberta’s aspirations in the energy sector. However, Smith also cautioned that any federal agenda prioritizing projects without the inclusion of new pipelines could convey a negative message to her province, emphasizing her willingness to engage with the process while ensuring Alberta’s energy interests are safeguarded.
As Canada grapples with the complexities of energy production and environmental commitments, the dialogue initiated at this meeting could set the stage for significant policy developments. The focus on decarbonization, paired with the urgency for new infrastructure, underscores the delicate balance lawmakers must strike in a rapidly evolving energy landscape.

It would be strange if Carney had massive investments in ‘green’ energy 🤔🤔
FREE THE WEST!!
INDEPENDENCE NOW!
Jeeze Carney needs to drop the uhhh and ummms
western oil is still cleaner than the oil they're pumping off tanker everyday in the east
Danniel,e Smith and the Alberta UCP are the biggest threat to any national projects. Just a month ago she was advocating breaking up the country because Canadians didn't elect the Conservatives.
Danielle Smith talks a lot about a commodity that kills our planet. Not a way to save it. I wonder who she works for? It isn't my descendants
Heavy bitumen sinks and cannot be cleaned up. Build a refinery to make light crude and I'm sure things would not be dead before they start.
U cant haul SLUDGE!
Sometimes when I read the comments on these social media posts, I genuinely hope for something important to discuss, but in the end, I learn nothing. People just write short snarky comments.
The world's demand for heavy sour crude is around 10,000,000 barrels a day. It's a good idea as long as the market is there
nice
"I didn't bully him… really! We'll, maybe a little." 😂😂
Poor liberals are snowball rolling mess.
DE CARNEY FROM CANADA or risk losing Canadas values and traditions , 72% living standards across Canada, which is based in common sense!
Decarbonize? I am skeptical …
Eby conveniently flies to Asia knowing there will be pipeline talks, Quebec won't commit to pipelines and First Nations are protesting growth. Same old foot shooting Canada crisis or not.
Decarbonized oil lol genius phrase to get his lefty base on board
Who’is gonna get rich? I guarantee it won’t be Canadian families
Yes!! Come on, Canada. Let's get it done this time!!
Carney needs to start working for Canadians like he's supposed to; that's what we are paying him and every government official for. They need to start opening up pipelines and take all these bogus regulations off everything; that would make Canada profitable. Also, take housing and get rid of ridiculous regulations that make it expensive and hard to build homes. Most foreigners need to start getting deported. There are too many in our country, and our tax dollars are being spent on them. That needs to stop. It's our tax dollars that they rob us from every week; it should go back in our pockets.
I wanna see if Carney will play the game. The game goes like this , Carney says "I'm all for pipelines!" knowing that B.C.'s premier will block them. Then B.C.'s premier will say " Those pipelines should go ahead" knowing that the natives will block them. This will go back and forth for years, and no pipelines will be built!

I'm tired of hearing things in terms of years! this means probably nothing will be done ever. years????
here is what will happen in 2 years, some form of deal will be in place with the US to buy our oil again at discount, we will just give up the idea of pipeline to sell to asia and go back to our old ways of let's depend only on the USA… I don't think they've heard of agile process, they should be meeting and making each other accountable every 2 weeks… "where are we with this" 2 years???? 🤬
it's always funny how the same thing done in private sector takes 6 months but at government levels no matter which level provincial or federal same thing costs 10x more and takes 10x more time.
look at eastern provinces… want to make electricity for who? bring it to the USA. I would put 0 money in any project that's the only buyer is USA!!!! if you want to make the EAST a AI Datacenter Hub OK but to say we'll produce electricity to sell to the USA… NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! 0 projects where the only buyer is the USA! we learned nothing from steel or auto sector??????
