Chopped: Matzo Balls, Mac & Cheese, Fried Onions & Subs | Full Episode Recap
Welcome to the Chopped kitchen, where culinary creativity meets fierce competition! In this thrilling episode (S14 E6), four talented chefs faced off in a battle of skill, ingenuity, and heart-pounding time constraints. Let’s dive into the delicious details of their culinary showdown.
Appetizer Round: A Flavorful Start
The action kicked off with an intriguing basket of ingredients, challenging the contestants to whip up an appetizer that would impress the judges. The mystery ingredients included:
- Matzo ball soup
- Mac and cheese
- Fried onion blossom
- Submarine sandwiches
Chefs displayed their artistry as they transformed these familiar staples into elevated creations. The matzo balls had to be fluffy and savory, while the mac and cheese needed that perfect creamy texture. The fried onion blossom added a crispy, crunchy element, and the sub sandwiches opened the door for creative interpretations.
Entrée Round: Steaks are High
As the contestants moved into the entrée round, the pressure amplified. The basket contained:
- Rib-eye steak
- Mashed potatoes
- Ketchup
- Greek salad
With less than 30 minutes on the clock, chefs had to execute perfectly cooked rib-eye steaks alongside a seemingly easy side of mashed potatoes. The twist? Finding a way to incorporate ketchup and Greek salad into a cohesive dish. The result was an explosion of flavors as chefs incorporated freshness from the salad while balancing the richness of the steak and potatoes.
Dessert Round: A Sweet Finale
The competition culminated in a dessert round bursting with unexpected ingredients. Contestants had to create a delectable dish using:
- Ice cream sundae
- Old bananas
- Stale tortilla chips
- Soda
With time ticking down, the chefs showcased their imaginative skills. Ice cream became the base for delightful sundaes, while old bananas were made into compelling sauces or creative toppings. Stale tortilla chips transformed into crunchy garnishes, bringing a surprising texture to the sweet creations. Meanwhile, soda added a fizzy twist, making for innovative desserts that could take the judges’ taste buds on an unexpected journey.

I remember this episode well. I worried about Chef Gerald when I first watched it because of how his soup looked. I thought it was okay, but I was surprised the judges liked it.
I always think that the judges on chopped are to picky and it's like that they have nothing nice to say to them
This is like when u meet a new *rug dealer and by the fourth time you visit he has skimped it down to barely tolerable. This editor is grabage.
The top two chefs were so good!
