Indonesia is celebrating its 79th Independence Day in the midst of a major construction project that has been causing headlines around the world. The Southeast Asian nation is in the process of relocating its capital from Jakarta to a brand new city called Nusantara, and construction costs are soaring.
The new capital city, Nusantara, is being built on the island of Borneo, and is expected to alleviate the overcrowding and congestion that Jakarta currently experiences. The move comes as Jakarta, which is one of the most populous cities in the world, grapples with issues such as traffic congestion, pollution, and overpopulation.
However, the construction costs for the new capital have been a cause for concern. The Indonesian government originally estimated that the move would cost around $30 billion, but recent reports indicate that the final bill could be much higher. Delays and setbacks in construction, as well as changes in design plans, have all contributed to the rising costs.
Despite the challenges, Indonesia is moving forward with the ambitious project, with President Joko Widodo leading the efforts to build a modern, sustainable, and efficient capital city. Nusantara is expected to be a smart city, incorporating technology and green infrastructure to create a more livable environment for its residents.
As Indonesia celebrates its Independence Day in the future capital of Nusantara, the country faces a long road ahead in completing the construction project and successfully transitioning to the new capital. With construction costs on the rise, the government will need to carefully manage the project to ensure that it stays within budget and provides a better future for all Indonesians.

Short answer: yes because Jakarta is literally sinking and polluted.
Long answer: yes because elsewise Indonesia looks like Java with a bunch of states being dragged along. Indonesia is not united and this will help with centralization-for better or worse.
Thank you Indonesia for standing with Palestine

No, we don't. We are still a relatively poor nation. Instead of spent every coin to achieve 7% growth so we could escape middle income nation, our president decided to built this worthless extravaganza. This project is purely for Jokowi's personal legacy. Immoral.
The question is more: does it need this kind of capital. Seems the prestige is outrunning their budget
corruption…
Indonesia is respectful.
Contrary to Indonesia,
Japanese gov’t is still lagging in changing the capital city, Tokyo to Okayama region which is historically safe without earthquakes. Instead Japanese gov’t stupidly spending taxpayers’ money for invested interest and corruption.

There is a lot of wrong news. For some reason, the western media always reports news that is not in accordance with the facts.
Construction costs will always soar. The only way to minimise it is by starting and completing the project early. When will the German Government start looking into improving train efficiency and punctuality of the Deutsche Bahn?
Jakarta is sinking?Meanwhile the Indonesian government is reclaiming land and building a bran new city in Jakarta.Jokowi said he is in no hurry to allow foreign investors to invest in the new capital city.He is prioritizing local investors first.
