Donald Trump was officially sworn in for his second term as President on Monday, January 20th, in Washington, marking a remarkable political comeback following his victory over Kamala Harris in the November election.
At 78 years old, Trump is now the 47th President of the United States, making him only the second commander-in-chief to serve non-consecutive terms, after Grover Cleveland in the late 19th century.
Despite the inauguration of Joe Biden four years ago being overshadowed by the Covid pandemic and the Capitol riot by Trump supporters, this year’s event was expected to return to its full pageantry. However, due to the forecast of brutally cold temperatures, the ceremony was relocated from the National Mall to the Capitol Rotunda.
In anticipation of his inauguration, Trump took to his Truth Social platform on Friday to express his excitement, stating, “January 20 cannot come fast enough! Everybody, even those who initially opposed a victory by President Donald J Trump and the Trump administration, just want it to happen. It is my obligation to protect the people of our country but, before we even begin, we have to think of the inauguration itself.”
With the country eagerly watching, Trump’s swearing-in ceremony was a momentous occasion that marked the beginning of his second term as President of the United States.
