Over the weekend, the UK saw a surge in protests and violence across cities and towns, prompting an emergency meeting at Downing Street led by Prime Minister Keir Starmer. The unrest stemmed from the tragic deaths of three young girls in Southport, which sparked outrage and demonstrations.
Home Secretary Yvette Cooper expressed her support for peaceful protests aimed at voicing concerns, but condemned the violent actions witnessed over the weekend. She described the behavior as “violence and thuggery” that was far removed from the purpose of peaceful protest.
The clashes and disturbances in various parts of England and Northern Ireland have raised serious concerns about public safety and the need for swift action to address the underlying issues. The emergency meeting at Downing Street aimed to discuss strategies for managing the ongoing situation and restoring calm in the affected areas.
The events of the weekend serve as a reminder of the importance of peaceful and respectful protest, as well as the need for authorities to uphold law and order in the face of escalating tensions. As the UK grapples with the aftermath of the protests, it remains to be seen what measures will be taken to prevent further violence and address the underlying grievances that have led to this outbreak of unrest.

No meetings when protesters ruined london streets…. Two face govt
Any government could have dealt with immigration at any time… Its a vote grabber every election which is why none of them ever deal with it… Your brexit failed and the country has gone down the pan in terms of business with European countries.
The PM is protecting the ideology that would see his Jewish Family in a grave….
Can you imagine being related to this spineless wimp?
His wife should divorce him immediately 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️
Those who make peaceful revolution impossible, will make violent revolution inevitable. We are a long way down this road.
Yea because it’s all far right, no Muslims running around with weapons right in front of police who just asked them to leave the weapons behind.
If you want this to end maybe tell the whole story, actually listen to us and stop painting everyone who isn’t Muslim or a leftist as far right. Yea there’s a group that are far right but not all of us!
I’m not condoning rights but your all completely ignoring half the story , wonder why 🤔
Get those idiot horses of our streets
BBC and SKY should be shamed of the lies they have told and the ethnic
violence carried out over the same period ….disgraceful …..no one can believe them
His dumbass should have put the troops on the streets to quell this madness from the start. I'm willing to bet the cops are missing the Pro Palestinian protesters.
They are the problem and won’t get rid of the boats either
So is Starmer using this to shut down social media platforms?
Kremlin Gangs control the Streets of UK now.
Nigel Farage Delivers to Putin
Once again after BREXIT. 🤣🤣
You lot need to stop calling these protests and call them what they are. Mobs of racists looking to destroy property and smash up communities
Interesting that the majority of the violence happening in Labour heartlands 😮 Are these hardcore Labour territories harbouring the "far right" thugs as Cooper puts it?
Terrorism. Not thuggery. It’s terrorism. I see the news are refusing to call it as it actually is because it white people causing the terror 😂
Racists will find a way to justify any kind of violence 🤮 Can't you just love your fellow human?
Did taking a knee have a positive impact on inequality or did it fan the flames of disorder and division?
Misinformation!!? What exactly is blanket calling everyone standing up for real issues "far right"!?
While I don't support the riots I really don't understand the media response to it or the police and government responses. I was in London, 2 minutes walk from Brixton, during the 2011 riots, because a criminal was shot by the police as be pointed a gun at them, those riots were far worse, rioters burnt and looted businesses all over the country, even shooting at a police helicopter. It was on another scale compared to this and they showed understanding as to why people were rioting and it was 1 man pointing a gun at police. These riots have followed a horrific incident, much much worse than what caused the far more violent riots in 2011, yet they don't seem to get why anyone is rioting. During a pandemic, while there was measures in place restricting the freedoms of all, thousands were allowed to have massive riots / protests because police killed a man in the US, not even in the UK, nothing to do with the UK police at all, yet they were allowed to protest and those protests again did far more damage than anything we have seen with these current riots, many more police were injured and hurt by the rioters, scenes were shocking. War memorials were vandalised, all because of something the other side of the Atlantic, yet they don't get why anyone riots over multiple children being stabbed. There seems to be a double standard here.
Hi BBC, Hi to the woke hive mind, Hi to the dingy dwellers…. Meet the lion you have just awakened.
Would be great if they had this kind of response to illegal immigration.
The amount of money that is being pumped into the police force, just imagine if the government used the money to stop these dangerous people from entering the country. Why has it been a struggle to get support from the police to tackle knife crime, yet all of a sudden, thousands of officers are available and everyday British people are being classed as far rights because they want to stand up for the country that our families have died for
The average person seen this coming years ago. The government are not stupid
This is all planned
The misinformation was spread by the media wtaf
BBC stop spreading misinformation and lies, people committing acts of crime are not far right they are literally people fed up with an unfair and tyrannical system, the way to calm things down is to deal with the real issues and deport all those Islamic fundamentalists😡😡😡
The TV licence is not forced onto anyone. Just don't watch live TV as its being broadcast, or iPlayer. Google 'no TV licence needed' and fill out the form. Enjoy your 160 (or whatever it costs)pounds extra a year.
Starmer said he will bring the full force of the police for these riots… I don't remember the same treatment of when Muslims riot, or BLM, or Antifa…
There is no doubt there are issues that need addressing related to immigration and also extremism in this country. There can be no excuse however for the destruction of personal and business property. A few mindless thugs are the cause of this and the sooner they are behind bars the better. Those involved should spare a thought for the parents of the three lovely girls who were mindlessly murdered.
I stopped paying the licence fee several years ago and the bbc will never get a single penny out of me ever again.
Well they know what they SHUD do and shut it with Far Right comments.
So one part of the nation armed with knives and machetes roaming the streets making trouble are protected by police but others who peacefully protest are faced with riot police and arrested mmmmm no wonder he’s labelled 2 tier Starmer
PM calling two tier policing accusations a "non issue" tells you everything you need to know about this labour government
UK government shouldn't use excessive violence against the protestors instead it should finally hold free and fair elections when those who get more votes get more seats in parliament.
And yet a BBC man observing the disturbances in Liverpool actually said 'What has any of this got to do with what happened in Southport.' Absolutely unbelievable. The BBC up to their usual distorted standards.
Leeds Rochdale looks like a duck
Far right are ruining the UK
Banning social media totally would be interesting
