Living on a Sailboat in Antarctica: A Full Tour of Our Unique Adventure
Welcome aboard our extraordinary home, the Icebird, nestled in the pristine and breathtaking landscapes of Antarctica! In our latest video, we invite you to join us as we explore the unique lifestyle and challenges of living on a sailboat in one of the most remote corners of the world.
Curiosity at Sea
We are Jason and Nikki Wynn, modern-day explorers who have been captivated by the call of adventure since 2011. Our journey on the Icebird allows us to merge our passion for travel with sustainable living and self-reliance. Set against the stunning backdrop of icy fjords and towering glaciers, our home not only serves as a vessel but also as a launchpad for our curiosity about the natural world and its inhabitants.
Touring the Icebird
In this detailed tour, we take you through every intimate corner of our explorer yacht—from the cozy forward cabin and fully equipped galley to the impressive engine room and pilot house. You’ll get an insider’s view of how we navigate life at sea, managing resources and daily challenges while embracing the beauty of our surroundings.
Meet our fascinating crew, including Captain Cath Hew, and dive into our adventures, from thrilling flights to exciting races across the icy waters. Learn why we chose to sail in Antarctica instead of taking a conventional cruise, and discover the lessons we’ve learned about community, kindness, and living off the grid.

Garcia 45 Foot Aluminium Yacht – Exploration 45 all the way! if you can afford it, a Exploration 60 or for a multihull a Explocat 52!
Icebird looks extremely strong and capable. Have fun exploring.
Nikki, those sunglasses are horrible. They take away from your beautiful face. Sorry to be honest about the glasses. Love you guys

Another example of why you are the best of the best vlogers out there. Truly an amazing adventure! Thanks for bringing it into our homes. Be safe and take care of each other.
What does "its pretty clutch" mean?
Fascinating boat, captain, story, and location. I thoroughly enjoyed. Thanks for sharing.
I know this expression gets over used but this truly is the trip of a lifetime. Keep the good stuff coming guys.
It would be interesting to see how the Captain follows the International Association of Antarctica Tour Operators (IAATO) guidelines. I think we were on the Hurtigruten vessel just behind you at Damoy Point and we would not have be allowed to sled/etc. on the ice given the guidelines intent to keep the Antarctic pristine.
Love that mast!
I am completely awestruck with all of it! I’m not a sailor, so when the captain was talking about the jib, etc, it reminded me of when I was getting “screeched in” in Newfoundland Canada . I had to repeat this whole thing about what the fishermen would say (embellished of course with a Newfoundlander accent). I couldn’t relate to a single word of it. So we had to go word by word. 😂 Kissing the cod and downing the screech was a piece of cake after that. 😂 I just LOVE that you are there living out your dream. ❤❤
🤟💙🌎🤝💚✌️🤠🤙
I love your adventures…….. THIS one is one I would not like anymore……. back 50 years ago (WITH the amenities of today) …… well YEP!! Hope you had a lot of fun guys….. what an adventure1
I may have missed it, but what is used as stability. Is there a gyro stabilization device or bottom wings? Mahalo
A groovy and very informative episode. I am so excited for you guys. The Capetian is a dear, and very knowledgeable. The way the ship is set up is brilliant for both comfort and safety. I am really looking forward to all your upcoming adventures in Antarctica. Stay safe and stay groovy.
I can't express how happy I am to travel along with you. This is an amazing experience. Thank you.
Since it is the bottom of the earth does it feel any different than being in the US?
So exciting! Happy for y’all. 💗
Cool bucket list spot but Alaska fiords are 10X prettier
Amazing, capable boat! I can't believe she was found in FLORIDA of all places! Jeeeez
A great opportunity missed to set the example and follow orders by not wearing a life jacket when out on deck.
Ps -so very happy to wake up to a Sunday adventure from the Wynn’s and to see old friends and crew from previous adventures joining you on this once in a lifetime adventure!❤️
Imagine spending 700K on a boat and still renting out another boat to cruise antartica…. TF?
I remember seeing this boat for sale back in the day, and I was amazed by the Aero rig and the hull design.
So basically Cath and Icebird are Enablers of adventurers, she helps us adventure geeks, dare I say Junkies, to access the ultimate adventure, the last frontier, excluding space. I think you mentioned that, too. Its a great Space analog there, the remoteness, practically alien landscapes. I've already motorcycled the Alaska Highway and Yukon and NWT and Dempster Highway, this seems like a reasonable next step. Darn, haha!
Thank you for this documentation!
In my late teens, I was on a missile tracking ship above Kamchatka with an above-deck duty station :-). Your video brought back to me how cold I always was :-). Enjoy!
AG1.. take the money and run. Their days are numbered.
Honestly, when we signed up for this I was a bit nervous about living in such close quarters with people we had never met in person. But it ended up being the best part! Can't wait to share all the adventures ahead. It really is the most wild and rugged place we've ever been to. Especially on a sailboat⛵ Head to https://drinkag1.com/GONEWITHTHEWYNNS to get an AG1 Flavor Sampler and a bottle of Vitamin D3+K2 FREE in your Welcome Kit with your first AG1 subscription (a $72 value!)
