Gabonese president Brice Oligui Nguema led events to mark a year since a military coup ended more than half a century of rule by the Bongo family. The “liberation coup” took place on January 7, 2021, when a group of soldiers seized control of the national radio station and declared that they had taken power to “restore democracy” in the country.
Since then, the new government has made significant strides in the fight against corruption and improving the country’s economy. President Nguema has also launched initiatives to promote transparency and accountability in government institutions.
During the anniversary celebrations, President Nguema emphasized the importance of unity and solidarity among the Gabonese people as they work towards building a better future for their country. The event was attended by dignitaries, members of the military, and ordinary citizens who came together to commemorate the historic moment that marked the beginning of a new era for Gabon.
As Gabon marks this significant milestone, the country is looking towards a brighter future with hopes of continued progress and development under the new leadership.
