First Drive of the 2025 Mazda CX-70 by MotorWeek – Video

The 2025 Mazda CX-70 is the latest addition to Mazda’s crossover lineup, joining the CX-50 and CX-90. While the CX-70 shares the same size and powertrains as the CX-90, there are a few key differences that set it apart. One of the main distinctions is the omission of third-row seating in the CX-70, giving it a more spacious cargo area and a new sub-trunk feature for extra storage options.

MotorWeek recently had the opportunity to test drive the CX-70, starting with the plug-in hybrid model. With a 2.5L inline-4 engine paired with an electric motor and a 17.8 kwh battery pack, the plug-in hybrid offers a smooth and fuel-conscious ride with all-wheel drive standard on all trims. The turbocharged 3.3L inline-6 model was also tested, delivering a punchier and more powerful driving experience that aligns well with Mazda’s sportier handling characteristics.

Despite the similarities between the CX-70 and CX-90, the pricing for the CX-70 remains competitive, starting at $41,900 for the entry-level turbo preferred trim. With a starting price a couple thousand dollars more than the CX-90 due to differing trim structures and more standard equipment, the CX-70 offers a great value for those in the market for a midsize utility vehicle.

Overall, the 2025 Mazda CX-70 impresses with its performance, handling, and spacious interior, making it a standout option in the competitive crossover market. Stay tuned to MotorWeek for the full road test review of the CX-70 and for more automotive news and reviews. Drive safe and stay tuned!
