Global National: July 30, 2025
In a significant development, Israel has firmly rejected Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney’s recent statement regarding Canada’s intent to recognize a Palestinian state at the United Nations this September. Israeli officials criticized the move as a reward for the militant faction Hamas, asserting that such recognition undermines ongoing efforts for peace and stability in the region. This declaration comes amidst escalating international pressure on Israel to address the severe humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip, where conditions continue to deteriorate.
Mike Armstrong reports on the grim reality faced by Palestinians in Gaza, where residents are engaged in a perilous struggle just to access limited food supplies. The ongoing conflict has created a dire situation for many, with reports of increasing frustrations and desperation among the populace. Despite the global calls for action to alleviate the suffering, the circumstances in the region remain largely unchanged, leaving many to question when relief might be forthcoming.
Meanwhile, in North America, U.S. President Donald Trump is showing no signs of conceding ground in trade negotiations with Canada. As the deadline for new tariffs looms, Mackenzie Gray examines the implications of Trump’s recent statements regarding an additional tax on Canadian copper and explores how these developments might impact interest rates. The tension between the two nations continues to rise as both sides navigate the complex landscape of trade relations.
In a shocking legal case, Sebastien Simon has been convicted of first-degree murder for the brutal attack that claimed the life of Brigitte Serre, with recent reports indicating he is gaining increasing freedom nearly two decades into his sentence. Dan Spector highlights the outrage felt by Serre’s family as they confront the reality of Simon’s potential reintegration into society, raising poignant questions about justice and accountability.
Lastly, on the scientific front, researchers have identified a concerning 4% chance that asteroid 2024 YR4, roughly the size of a football field, could collide with the moon in 2032. As Heather Yourex-West notes, such an event would not only affect our lunar neighbor but could pose significant ramifications for life on Earth. This looming threat serves as a critical reminder of the vulnerabilities inherent in our solar system and the need for continued vigilance and study in planetary defense.

Canada is very difficult to be in my life is in real terrible time s it seems to keep getting worse and worse Canada is a horrible place to live if I wasn't born there I would have had a no reason to be there in my thoughts I wish to leave and never return I wish I never was born there it has always been horrible place to live these politicians make it worse and worse and ripoff there citizens and do not reflect the Canadian people who are born and raised in Canada.
We as Canadians cannot even begin to imagine what life (if you can call it life) is like in Gaza. Yes weve been hit a bit hard here in canada but there is no comparison to the genocide that's going in Gaza. Have a ❤.
I choose to not participate in Canada by choice
I don't recognize Canada as a nation I want to be Americans
Canadians want Palestine to be recognized, their lives to be saved, and their dignity and freedom protected.
May Love Peace Prevail In The World….
I highly doubt more money will help America. They already have been the most wealthy. The citizen will still be as miserable as they always been.
This world is in turmoil…
No confidence in Mark Carney.
He has not protected our own people. We were supposed to build canada and help real Canadians. All they care about is world affairs and immigrants.
2:06 you mean Abbas who is worth $400m from sucking prosperity from his own people and calls for the death of Jews? Get a reality check and stop being so weak.
When will Canada recognize the issues of every day Canadian citizens instead of foreigners?
Where’s the budget MK? What are you doing w about our tarrifs ?
Help others as you help yourself, all in a fair share… Not the ego Trump way!!
New York Times humiliation over viral 'starving' Gaza boy image – Sky News Australia
Regime change in Israel!
We need to ask, who is the Palestinian Authority? Is it Hamas? Also, let us fix our own house here in Canada with people living in tent cities. It is wonderful trying to help others, nobody should go hungry. But we have to be healthy first to do these deeds
Why should we care about Israel's opinion on the matter? Recognizing Palestine as a valid state would only be an issue with Israel if they were doing something immoral to the Palestinians.
And everyone knows Israel wouldn't do that, right?
