Hezbollah Leader Ibrahim Aqil Killed by Israel for Alleged Role in 1983 Marine Barracks Bombing, US Claims

In a targeted intelligence-based strike, Israel has taken out Ibrahim Aqil, a Hezbollah leader responsible for a series of bombing attacks in the 1980s that claimed the lives of more than 250 Americans. Aqil, also known as “Tahsin,” was a principal leader of the Hezbollah cell that orchestrated the bombings at the US embassy in Beirut and the Marine Corps barracks, both in 1983.

The bombing at the US embassy in Beirut on April 18, 1983, resulted in the deaths of 63 people, including 17 Americans. The attack on the Marine Corps barracks in Beirut on October 23 of the same year was even more devastating, claiming the lives of 241 US troops and civilian personnel. Aqil’s death comes as Israel is on the brink of all-out war with the Iranian proxy group, Hezbollah.

At the time of his elimination, Aqil, along with other terror commanders, was planning a fresh incursion into Israel with the intent to kidnap and murder innocent civilians. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed that Aqil was killed in a targeted strike in Beirut.

This event marks a significant development in the ongoing tensions between Israel and Hezbollah. The IDF’s action sends a strong message to terrorist organizations that Israel will not tolerate threats to its security and will take decisive action to protect its citizens.
