Summary of Lost Command (1966)
Lost Command is a gripping war drama that immerses audiences in the brutal realities of conflict, inspired by true events. Directed by Mark Robson, the film features an outstanding cast, led by Anthony Quinn, Alain Delon, George Segal, and Claudia Cardinale.
Set against the backdrop of the Algerian War, the narrative follows Colonel Pierre Masot (played by Anthony Quinn), a French paratroop commander grappling with the psychological scars of previous failures in Indochina. As he takes charge of a difficult military campaign in Algeria, Masot confronts not only the physical challenges of warfare but also the moral complexities and futility of imperial ambitions.
The screenplay captures deeply human experiences, portraying soldiers—and leaders—who are continuously wrestling with their sense of duty and the devastating consequences of their actions. The film’s gritty realism is underscored by stunning cinematography and an evocative score, creating an immersive experience that highlights the stark contrasts of bravery and despair.
With strong performances, particularly from Quinn and Delon, Lost Command explores the toll that violence exerts not just on the battlefield, but on the psyche of individuals and societies. It emerges as a thought-provoking commentary on the nature of war, leaving viewers to ponder the true cost of conflict.

Cardinale only died a few months ago. She was 87. My fave role of hers in one of my fave films was as Jill McBain in Once Upon A Time In The West. Very long burn but also very engrossing.
Boring
Viet Nam is very green, tropical.

Интересно, когда через 5 минут боя у них кончатся все патроны, что они будут делать? 🤔🤭
Ах да, в бою боекомплект не важен, главная фляжка с бордо и круассаны в кармане 🤣
Baita filme…obrigado, muito bom!!
What a bizarre little movie. A Canadian-American production with an American star and a mostly French cast, based on a novel about the French defeat in Indochina. This movie was made 12 years after the French defeat at Dien Bin Phu. I gotta believe that the French audience wanted neither to remember the war or to see a movie about a French war that was made by Americans. I wonder if it was considered as mediocre back then, as it seems today.
The one and only He Man of all time

فشل الفرنسيون في حماية وطنهم وسحلهم الألمان في عقر دارهم، وكانت جحافلهم تعذب وتقتل الأبرياء و العزل في الجزائر…. تعست فرنسا
Interesting to think that I recently watched Quinn on YT as a Libyan Arab freedom fighter in the 1979 flick Lion of the Desert, set in the1930s.
Colonial masters just don’t ever tell the truth, they just want to exploit, steal and destroy the peoples culture. They take your culture, your god and resources call then call the natives terrorist. They rape and make people subservient in their own country. When Germany colonized France then it’s about freedom, they celebrate the French resistance but demonize people who resisted them. After world war 2 European powers continued to suppress and colonize people, they learned nothing and believe freedom means only their freedom . Those who deny others Freedom do not deserve freedom.!
