Mexico is developing a six-seat electric vehicle with a target price of around $8,000—and it’s taking a completely different approach from companies like Tesla.
The Olinia Uno isn’t designed to replace every gasoline car. With a top speed of just 50 km/h, a small 14.7-kWh battery, and roughly 100 to 125 kilometers of claimed urban range, it is built specifically for short trips, families, local transportation, and people who might otherwise rely on motorcycles or older gasoline vehicles.
In this documentary, we explore how Mexico is trying to make an EV this cheap, why the Uno can carry up to six people despite its tiny footprint, and how removing highway speed, massive batteries, and long-range capability dramatically changes the economics of an electric vehicle. We also examine Mexico’s manufacturing strategy, local supply chain, planned charging network, and the commercial Olinia Carga.
The Uno still has to survive the hardest test: mass production. But if Mexico can actually deliver it near the promised price, it could reveal a completely different path toward affordable electric transportation.
