Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio met in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia for high-level talks aimed at negotiating an end to Russia’s war in Ukraine. Lavrov arrived with Russia’s foreign affairs adviser Yuri Ushakov to hold discussions with Rubio, who was already in Saudi Arabia.
The main focus of the talks was to establish a framework for a potential meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin. In addition, the diplomats discussed the possibility of restoring ties between Washington and Moscow.
The meeting comes at a crucial time as the conflict in Ukraine continues to escalate. Both Lavrov and Rubio expressed their commitment to finding a peaceful resolution to the crisis and avoiding further bloodshed.
