In the latest escalation of violence in Gaza, an Israeli strike on the Daraj clinic in Gaza City has claimed the life of a senior health official, Hani Al-Jaafarawi. Al-Jaafarawi, who served as the head of Gaza’s ambulance and emergency services, is now amongst the hundreds of medical workers who have lost their lives in Israeli attacks since the start of the war last October.
The health ministry described Al-Jaafarawi as a ‘solid model of steadfastness and determination’, highlighting his dedication to providing medical assistance to those in need. The loss of such a respected and experienced health official has dealt a severe blow to the healthcare system in Gaza, which is already struggling to cope with the overwhelming number of casualties.
Nearly 500 medical workers have been killed in the ongoing conflict, further exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in the region. Al Jazeera’s Hani Mahmoud reports from Deir el-Balah in central Gaza, shedding light on the devastating impact of the Israeli airstrikes on the healthcare infrastructure in Palestine.
As the violence continues to escalate, it is imperative for the international community to intervene and put an end to the senseless bloodshed. The people of Gaza deserve to live in peace and security, free from the constant threat of violence and destruction. Let us stand in solidarity with the people of Gaza and work towards a peaceful resolution to this long-standing conflict.
