A Freeze Warning covers much of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, while Frost Advisories stretch across northern and western Lower Michigan, as temperatures drop into the 20s and 30s overnight into Saturday.
The National Weather Service offices in Marquette, Gaylord and Grand Rapids have all issued advisories ahead of the cold snap.
Freeze Warning: Central and Western Upper Peninsula
NWS Marquette has a Freeze Warning in effect from 10 p.m. this evening to 10 a.m. Saturday.
It covers a wide stretch of central and western Upper Michigan, including Marquette, Houghton, Iron Mountain, Escanaba, Ironwood, Manistique and Munising.
Forecasters say temperatures could drop as low as 23 degrees.
Frost and freeze conditions could kill crops and sensitive vegetation, and may damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.
NWS Marquette described the setup as skies cleared behind a cold front.
Frost Advisory: Northern Lower Michigan
NWS Gaylord has a Frost Advisory in effect from 10 p.m. this evening to 8 a.m. EDT Saturday for northern Lower Michigan.
Counties include Cheboygan, Presque Isle, Otsego, Montmorency, Kalkaska, Crawford, Oscoda, Wexford, Missaukee, Roscommon and Ogemaw.
Temperatures as low as 33 degrees are expected to bring frost formation.
A second Gaylord advisory covers the eastern Upper Peninsula, including western and central Chippewa County and both sides of Mackinac County, where lows as low as 34 degrees are expected over the same hours.
NWS Gaylord says this won’t be a one-night event.
Frost Advisory: West Michigan
NWS Grand Rapids has also issued a Frost Advisory from 10 p.m. this evening to 8 a.m. EDT Saturday.
