A ski lift collapse in northern Spain has left at least 30 people injured, with 17 of them in serious condition. The incident took place at the Astún resort in the Spanish Pyrenees, prompting the closure of the resort and the immediate arrival of rescue services to the scene.
Images and videos circulating on social media depict a harrowing scene of individuals lying on the snow beneath the collapsed ski lift. Spain’s Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez expressed his shock upon learning of the incident.
As authorities work to assess the full extent of the injuries and investigate the cause of the collapse, the ski resort remains closed to the public. Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story.

My partner tried to surprise me with breakfast in bed. It was sweet until I accidentally spilled orange juice on the sheets. Nothing like a sticky situation to start the morning🔥
Prayers for a swift recovery in this difficult situation 🙏 ❤️
Sometimes I cover my self in red wine and pretend im a used sanitary towel
Holy Moly 😮😮😯😯
Ski lifts are very dangerous everywhere, and it boggles my mind that greater safety standards aren't in place.

The lawsuits will be massive

Our condolences to the injured. ❤from Somalia 🇸🇴 😢

people recover from this event. It must have been terrifying 😢😢
Tears of despair streaming down my face after hearing this news 😢 💔
am i the only one creeped out by her looking dead straight on the camera? LMAO
It all boils down to inspections lift
Excellent conditions? There is barely any snow there!!! Obviously a counter weight failure.
I'm terrified of ski lifts.. if they rock too much to one side on a windy day, they'll come right off the cable. Why can't there be ski lifts like the ones for tubing? Just have it on the sidelines out of the way of people enjoying the mountain. Skii'ers and snowboarders can sit in a tube and ride it up the mountain. When they get off, they can snap their skis back on, and boarders can simply strap into their board as they normally would. Simple.
😢
My Advice . Its Winter time ! Stay indoors in front of a roaring log fire drinking coffee as is practiced by most sensible people , and you wont fall off a silly ski lift ! More money and privilidge than common sense .
JUSTICE FOR ALL THE INNOCENT VICTIMS OF THE BBC PDFILE RING
The worst part is how many resources will be used on those rich people who are taking part in a risk activity
That’s a 50 foot fall while your feet are strapped to boards. Terrifying.
Wishing all the injured a speedy recovery, from Syria we love you and pray for you ❤💚
chair lifts are mental for that reason alone I's never ski.
Was it a chairlift failure or was it a cable car (Gondola accident>…not great reporting) …but I am sure 15 meters….you will suffer catastrophic injuries if not DEATH!!
On the plus side none of these rich people will ever have to work again😅
Billions for Ukraine for free. I guess someone had to cut corners here and there in infrastructure to balance out. E.g. less frequent maintenance.
Oh dear what a disaster. My heart breaks for them all.
This killed more people than the fires in Los Angeles. What will the political fallout be. Spain also had recent floods that killed 219. Spain has a population of less than 50 million, California about 40 million. Interesting.
Psst kinda like a cruise ship disaster. So what those people didn’t need to be there
If it wasn't for technology there wouldn't be any problems to solve.

Remember the YAN lift grip failures. That was systemic. This looks like a maintenance / mechanical fault.
The 4 person chairlift was rocking from side to side, suggesting that wind could have been an issue, which could result in the cable becoming disconnected from the pulleys on the towers.
When I trained as a ski instructor (45 years ago) we were taught how to crawl along the cable in order to rescue people trapped on the chairlift; not an easy task for me, as I am afraid of heights.
Once the chairlift has stabilized, it is imperative that people do not jump off, which causes the cable to bounce throwing other people off the lift. The best tactic is for them to remain calm and seated.
While on holiday (not working as a ski instructor) in Val-d'Isère in the late 1970's a couple of towers on a chairlift were taken out by an avalanche. Thankfully the lift stopped quickly and nobody fell from the lift, but many people were stuck on the lift. I was known, to the local ski instructors, I was member of the RAF ski team. My job was mainly to keep the Brits from jumping off the lift. My reward was being "invited" to crawl along the cable to rescue about 8 to 10 pairs of people (only two seats in those days), between two pylons.
For those who helped, there was free bear in Dick's T Bar (now long gone).
My advice, if involved in a lift accident, is try to stay in the lift.
Best wishes to my spanish brothers from Ecuador
Infrastructure falling apart. Better check them all or else this will happen again. 💔
Why doe's the world need to be informed about this? Is reporting death entertainment?
The ground is not a floor unless you live in a dirt floor house.
Despite the spectacular nature of the accident, there have only been 10 injured, two of them more serious but out of danger, I hope they recover without problems
There have been some people who were left hanging upside down from their skis for half an hour until they were rescued.

The breakdown was in one of the teleski ascent wheels.
The cable held and did not break, but it created an elastic rope effect that first ejected the skiers downwards and then bounced upwards.
People pay a lot of money on ski holidays wtf more safety precautions are needed for real even in France
I knew it! Was avoiding this thing my whole life
