China may have just changed construction forever—and it didn’t do it by inventing a new type of concrete.
Instead, Chinese engineers developed two breakthroughs that challenge everything the construction industry has relied on for more than a century. One compresses fresh concrete under immense pressure to make it dramatically stronger and more durable. The other replaces traditional concrete slabs with an ultra-light steel structural system capable of assembling high-rise buildings in just days.
In this documentary, we explore compression-cast concrete, the revolutionary B-Core structural system, and how researchers at Tongji University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and Broad Group are rethinking how buildings are made. We also examine why companies in Germany, Japan, South Korea, and across Europe are rushing to develop similar technologies.
Could these innovations reduce carbon emissions, shorten construction timelines, and replace many of the limitations of conventional concrete? Or will regulations, costs, and manufacturing challenges slow their global adoption?
Concrete built the modern world. The next generation of construction may be built very differently.

The global emissions from cement production are more like 4% not 8%
Strange that when bakers make things they find ways to fill your treat with air? I bet that new pressurised concrete is far more expensive than regular concrete?
