In recent years, China’s aggressive actions in the South China Sea have heightened tensions with neighboring countries Vietnam and the Philippines. With its vast territorial claims in the region, including the construction of artificial islands and military installations, China has sought to solidify its dominance in the strategically important waterway.
As a response to China’s encroachment, Vietnam and the Philippines have taken different approaches to assert their own claims in the disputed waters. Vietnam has been actively building up its maritime capabilities and engaging in diplomatic efforts to strengthen its position in the South China Sea. The country has also bolstered its ties with regional allies and partners, such as the United States and Japan, to counter China’s influence.
On the other hand, the Philippines has chosen to pursue a legal avenue by taking its case to an international tribunal. In 2016, the Permanent Court of Arbitration ruled in favor of the Philippines, invalidating China’s expansive claims in the South China Sea. Despite this victory, China has largely ignored the court’s decision and continued its assertive actions in the disputed waters.
These differing strategies highlight the complex dynamics at play in the South China Sea, where overlapping territorial claims and competing geopolitical interests have created a fragile and potentially volatile situation. As China continues to assert its dominance in the region, Vietnam and the Philippines face the challenge of balancing their own strategic interests while navigating their relationship with a powerful neighbor. The question remains: How will these countries stand up to China’s growing influence in the South China Sea?

Kind of like Cambodia and Vietnam did vs the US or?
Fantastisch! Ich werde mich auf weitere Videos freuen! 🍭💝
China's claim to the South China Sea is identical to the claim of Republic of China, Taiwan. It was agreed by the US and the Republic of China. I urge EU and DW to respect historical FACTS.
DW can cut and select videos paired with slanders against China!
Why I cannot post here?
Do EU and DW respect speech freedom?
Do EU and DW respect historical FACTS?
China's claim to the South China Sea is identical to the claim of Republic of China, Taiwan.
The constant, loud background music is just too much for me.
EU and DW do not respect historical facts and the Claim of Taiwan, whose official name is republic of China. China's claim is inherited from Republic of China which was founded in 1911, in case DW does not know. Why DW has all these news that shows that they don't respect history, or plainly, have no clue of written history.
Taiwan is part of China like Germany is part of Russia. Zero difference
Notice how DW made Taiwan the same color on the map graphic as China? Germany is a selfish “friend”
As usual, US is busy of rushing to every location to compete with others.
US: I DONT ALLOW MY LITTLE BROTHER GETTING ALONG WITH CHINA PEACEFULLY AND I HAVE TO DO SOMETHING EVIL.
Social resentful and pro dictatorship ignorants in the comments… It is better to ignore them
The US should teach China a lesson
Vietnam invaded in Cambodia.
no to communism
The same Vietnam that literally brought the US to its knees is now afraid of China.
Surely DW is smart enough to know that in 1946 US not only authorised but also assisted China to claim SMS.
Surely DW is smart enough to know that Philipine rented the courtroom from 'permanant tribunal' and bribed a couple of judges coming back during their holidays and set up a so-called ' temporary tribunal' which the 'permanent tribunal' is distancing with it, total cost was $30mil.
The Philippines are just an USA puppet
Vietnam is the one looking for true sovereignty in that sea
While China's claim is strictly inherited from Qing and Republic of China, the same cannot be said about the two other parties. For Vietnam, when the French took the land, the French left the ocean to Qing. Vietnam has no French document about the ocean they are claiming now. For the Filipino, their claim called Western Philippine Sea was first called in 2012.
All the Philippines and Vietnam have to stretch their legs is the sea. China has a large country with plenty of room. China wants to impose its will on her smaller neighbors and plunder the resources available
CHINA REACTION TO VIETNAM'S BUILDING IS LAUGHABLE! SINCE THEIR REACTION TO PHILIPPINES RESUPPLY IN SECOND THOMAS SHOAL AND OTHER AREAS WITHIN PHILIPPINES EEZ IS LIKE A CHILD'S TANTRUM AFTER HE HIS CANDY GOT STOLEN!
CHINA SO SCARED TO ANGER VIETNAM!
