State of Emergency Declared in Santorini as Island Hit by Numerous Earthquakes

Greece has declared a state of emergency on the beautiful Santorini island as it has been rocked by thousands of earthquakes in the past week. Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis visited the island to address the situation, reassuring the public that the state is closely monitoring the increased seismic activity. Mitsotakis emphasized that while there have been numerous medium-sized earthquakes, they do not currently pose a significant risk or danger to the island.

Earthquake expert and professor Efthymios Lekkas reported that there have been approximately 7,000 quakes in just seven days, leading to the decision to declare a state of emergency on Santorini. As a precautionary measure, over 10,000 residents and workers have been evacuated from the island in light of the ongoing seismic activity.

Despite the unsettling events, Mitsotakis remains hopeful that the situation will improve in the coming weeks. He stated, “In a few weeks, this seismic activity would have completely subsided, and the island will return back to its normal rhythm.” With the state of emergency in place and authorities closely monitoring the situation, efforts are being made to ensure the safety and well-being of the people on Santorini during this challenging time.
