Supertramp – Breakfast In America (Official 4K Video)
As we dive into today’s feature on "Top 200 Rock Hits: Today’s Most Played Worldwide," we celebrate a timeless classic by the British rock band Supertramp. Known for their distinctive sound that blends rock, progressive rock, and pop, Supertramp emerged from England in the early 1970s, carving out a niche with their innovative music and thoughtful lyrics. Founded in 1969 by Rick Davies and Roger Hodgson, the band experienced various lineup changes over the years but maintained a core of creative brilliance that propelled them to fame.
The band’s history is marked by the release of several iconic albums that left an indelible mark on the music scene. Their most acclaimed work, “Breakfast in America,” debuted in 1979, featuring a collection of hits that showcased their unique sound and compelling storytelling. The album’s success propelled Supertramp to international stardom, selling over 20 million copies worldwide and reaching the top of charts in numerous countries. The lead track, "Breakfast in America," encapsulates their artistic essence – catchy melodies, exceptional musicianship, and poignant commentary.
"Breakfast in America" is not just a song; it’s a cultural touchstone. Released as a single in 1979, it peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the United States, solidifying Supertramp’s position in rock history. The song’s playful yet reflective lyrics capture the essence of nostalgia and longing, resonating deeply with audiences. The vibrant piano riffs and unforgettable saxophone solos echo a sense of freedom, invoking images of American landscapes and experiences that have captured the hearts of listeners for generations.
Over the years, Supertramp has experienced a series of member changes, including the departure of co-founder Roger Hodgson in 1983, which led to a shift in the band’s musical direction. Despite these transitions, Rick Davies continued to keep the spirit of Supertramp alive through various tours and albums until the band went on hiatus in the mid-2000s. They did, however, use a trombone and a double bass, and John Halliwell's backing vocals are awesome!

EXISTEN CANCIONES QUE NOS TRANSPORTAN A UN MUNDO FANTÁSTICO…PUEDE DECIRSE DE ENSUEÑO. UN SALUDO DESDE COLOMBIA
I was picking up a prescription and heard one of them singing a couple of lined from this so said they were to young to sing this and then asked them to go further that the opening lines. She did and I was amazed. Not because she could but because how often people say, and an oft repeated thing, that the "youth of today" don't know good music yet she could sing this word perfect.
I mean seriously get over yourselves arrogant backsides. Music is music, whether or not we like or not is irrelevant, it just is. End of story. For a more recent example I can't and never have liked Oasis, yet look at the fuss of their reformation tour. Personally I would rather stick knitting needles in my ears, but I now many who like them. It is horses for courses. Some of my best friends can't stand Kate Bush but I am a major fan.

Take a look at my girlfriend
She's the only one I got
Not much of a girlfriend
I never seem to get a lot
Take a jumbo, across the water
Like to see America
See the girls in California
I'm hoping it's going to come true
But there's not a lot I can do
Could we have kippers for breakfast,
Mummy dear, Mummy dear?
They got to have 'em in Texas,
'Cause everyone's a millionaire
I'm a winner, I'm a sinner
Do you want my autograph?
I'm a loser, what a joker
I'm playing my jokes upon you
While there's nothing better to do,
Yeah!
