Prisoners held by Israel are reportedly facing dire conditions, according to the director of al-Shifa Hospital, Muhammad Abu Salmiya. Abu Salmiya, who was recently released from Israeli detention, described the situation as “tragic” due to lack of access to food, water, and alleged torture.
He further highlighted that a significant number of medical personnel have been detained by Israeli forces, with some Palestinian detainees even losing their lives as a result of torture. Abu Salmiya emphasized the resilience of Palestinians in Gaza, stating their determination to rebuild despite the challenges faced.
The director’s accounts of brutal torture during his own detention were corroborated by Palestinian sources, indicating a pattern of mistreatment of prisoners held by Israel. Mansour Shouman, a Palestinian journalist and witness to conflicts in Rafah and Khan Younis, echoed Abu Salmiya’s claims, noting that numerous individuals have been wrongfully detained by Israeli forces in recent months.
The release of Abu Salmiya sheds light on the ongoing hardships endured by Palestinian prisoners in Israeli-run prisons, sparking concerns over human rights violations and abuses. The plight of these individuals remains a pressing issue, with calls for international attention and accountability for the reported atrocities.
