In a bold move to safeguard their strategic asset in Greenland and the Arctic region, Denmark has announced plans to invest over $1 billion in defense. This comes amid growing interest in the region, particularly from President Trump who sees Greenland’s location between North America and Russia as highly valuable.
The United States has a long history of military presence in Greenland, dating back to World War II when Denmark was invaded by Germany. The U.S. established the Pituffik Space Base on the island and stationed forces there to defend against potential threats.
However, in the post-Cold War era, the U.S. gradually withdrew from several military bases in Greenland, leaving Denmark to take on a larger role in defending the territory. Despite this, the U.S. still maintains a presence on the island, with the Pituffik Space Base serving as a key military outpost.
Denmark’s efforts to boost defense in Greenland include the use of innovative technologies such as dog-sleds and drones. These capabilities, along with Denmark’s commitment to protecting Greenland, highlight the importance of the region in global geopolitics.
As the U.S. continues to assert its interests in Greenland, questions arise about the level of involvement they will have in the territory in the future. With Denmark’s significant investments in defense and the changing dynamics of international relations, the battle to defend Greenland is sure to remain a key issue for both countries moving forward.

Vance is such a psycho.
I don't know why the American media keeps claiming there is oil and gas underground in and around Greenland.
There isn't; no matter how many times the American media repeats it.
– wear a suit
– say thankyou
Terribly sorry Muricans, you will never "get" Greenland or its territory.
Wow and no word that trump want to annex Greenland, he doesnt care about it security…
Children of Vikings, who'd thought? First came bad Germans and now bad Americans. May be Russians later?
The Orange menaces interest have nothing to do with US or international security, it is solely a grab for ressources the US will otherwise have to buy from Greenland.
If it was a security matter, i am sure any US government current or past, would just have asked for permission to open more bases, and this would no doubt have been granted with no effort.
It is a nice place, i have been up there, and i would like for Denmark to be able to make ICBM bases there for our nuclear missiles we sould for sure make, both on the east and west coast as it is clear people with negative intentions do no longer come from one direction.
IF the US want to do anything positive on Greenland, i suggest they clean up the mess they have left behind up there in the form of old bases, CUZ guests just do not leave a mess like that, well at least not well mannered guests,,, savages, well that’s a whole other matter.
I would also strongly urge a halt on any Danish procurements of defence equipment from the US; this is simply a foolish undertaking with the current administration.
I don’t know about colonial Denmark but I know about the US. In every land we have “bought “ we have destroyed the indigenous culture and people. Greenlanders should never allow Trump to poison their Inuit culture with bigotry, greed and misery. The indigenous Inuits are a proud and dignified people. Never submit to the bully, make your Inuit ancestors and future Inuit generations proud.. Chart your own course, be the masters of your own destiny.
Hes right though, we havent done enough to keep Greenland safe.
For instance. We still allow hostile countries to have military bases there like the Pituffik Space Base.
This is very simple, the danish can not properly defend that territory, nor would they be able to offer the Inuits a better prospective compared to what Uncle sam can.
The inuits are plagued by social issues such as alchohololism, unemployment etc…
We also understand that the inuits want nothing to do Uncle sam nor Denmark.
But both governments, greenland and Uncle sam, realize that they need each other, so I suppose that in the near future, we will see some sort of free association being reached.
Disgusting Trumpist propaganda and revisionist history. Nicely done, WSJ. Not that I am surprised or anything. Exactly zero people expect WSJ to have any journalistic integrity that is marginally better than Russia Today.
Just international politics…power wins the day. US won't take Greenland by force. They don't need to. Denmark and Greenland will just agree to what US wants. More bases? sure. Denmark knows this too.
It’s outrageous how us have treated Denmark. A country that have done everything the us has been asking for
Dear Danish people, please understand that Trump and Vance don't seek to reinforce Greenland security, but to take over the island! They plan to take over it for the precious resources! Just like Russia invaded Ukraine! Please don't offset security to the US, the US is now the enemy! And also, please understand that if the US were to invade Greenland, the whole Europe will respond, and it will be WW3! You will absolutely not fight it alone!
America has competent leadership in control after 4 years, I wouldn't be surprised if America gets Greenland in some shape or form as they have already started taking back the Panama Canal.
😂😅😅😂😅😂😂😅 Europe is in trouble
Even before watching this video – as a CANADIAN, I support Denmark
I love how this title implies the US has ANY, any , ANY sort of claim to Greenland and they aren't the aggressor just doing whatever they want.
Security Concerns = Occupation + Land Theft + Resource Theft! 😂
If anyone should attack Greenland the Danes would try and save them – Danish special forces operate there – they use dogs and sleds and eat seals and birds – they even eat their own dogs if needed – no infrastructure – no roads except from a few in the capital.
Invading Greenland would the NEW Vietnam for the US, yes they can deport Greenlanders to Guantanamo (where they will die from heatstroke) but all greenlanders above 14 own a hunting rifle and can onto the ice and live in igloos, and all the old Sirius patrols will return to defend the island!!! No american soldier will survive a winter there, they are used having PX and Macdonalds, which cannot be supported in wintertime, it will not be that easy, remember article 5 do not specify, that it has to be a enemy country, Europe and Canada will have a say in this too!!!!!!!!!!!
Why should Denmark do all the work defending USA from attacks over the pole? Denmarks obligation is to defend Greenland. It must be enough, that Greenland and Denmark allows US to run bases on Greenland for their selfdefense. If USA cannot manage to defend themselves, they must ask Nato for help. As for WW2, US did (in own interest) help attacking the nazi weather stations, but it was Greenlanders and Danes, who did the patrolling and surveillance along the coast.
We greenlanders say no. Learn it Trump.
So Vance went to Greenland to brainwash the Military Personnel who are already in Greenland.
