The mystery of the Shroud of Turin | DW Documentary
The Shroud of Turin is one of the most fascinating and controversial objects of religious worship. Jesus is said to have been wrapped in this cloth after his crucifixion. Does the shroud’s faint bloodstained image really show a crucified Christ?
Opinions are divided on the Shroud of Turin: for some, it is the burial cloth of Jesus of Nazareth, for others, a medieval forgery. “The shroud is like a black hole. If you get too close to it, you get sucked in and can’t get away,” says chemist Luigi Garlaschelli, “because there are so many unanswered questions. One lifetime is not enough.” This, despite the scientist’s own conclusion the Shroud of Turin is a brilliant forgery. Because even he isn’t entirely sure. Scientists from different camps provide evidence that the Shroud of Turin could be authentic. But who is right?
“One lifetime is not enough” – a comment that private researcher Joe Marino from Ohio can also relate to. A paperback about the Shroud of Turin led him to religion many years ago. He studied theology and entered a monastery. “I feel called to study the shroud and spread the word about it,” says Marino, who has now written several books and over a hundred articles on the subject. He is convinced “that it is the authentic shroud of Jesus.”
The documentary presents the story in the style of a criminal investigation. Starting from the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem, it takes viewers to the underworld of Istanbul, where, according to legend, the shroud was hidden for a long time. The shroud was first exhibited in Lirey, France, in 1354 AD, as historical records show. And for a good 300 years, it has been kept in Turin, in a chapel built especially for this purpose. Here, it is revered by some, viewed critically by others.

No
"Christ" wasn't a surname. If you call him "Jesus Christ" you are endorsing the proposition that Jesus was
the hoped for messiah. In this documentary, Jesus is referred to as the Christ not only by believers but by the narrator. Seriously, DW?
The crucifiction injuries on the hand/wrists where blood was found was consistant with the Roman way, nail through the wrists and not the hands as dipicted throughout historical art, that is a fact that was not known in the Middle Ages. We still cannot replicate it today, we do not know how the image was created, That is the biggest mystery.
Jesus never exited 😅but people still believe
Hahahah 😂
I guess if you believe that a Jew from Roman controlled Judea is the Messiah you’ll believe most anything, including that this is his death shroud.
No it's not. People don't understand that Jesus was unrecognizable from being scourged, punched, kicked and beaten with rods. He was naked when all of this happened. They most likely couldn't even tell if he was male or female. His face would have been incredibly swollen. There would have been so many wounds, the cloth would have numerous blood stains all over it.
Jesus was of the bloodline of David, so how is that a "lower class"? There's no record of Jesus or his followers performing alms or asking for money. He was called "Rabbi" (Rabboni: my Rabbi), therefore he had to be married. Was entertained by wealthy people. He paid taxes. There may not have been room at the inn, but they didn't go there begging for a room, they had the wherewithal to rent a room. They were probably still charged for the stable accomodations.
He rented a dinner hall for the "last supper". His disciples owned boats, netting. They were all clothed and shod individuals. There's no deductive evidence to infer Jesus was poor.
As a side note: the shroud shows nails did not pierce the tops of the figure's feet, but streamlets show them issuing from his ankles. Both feet were nailed to the opposite sides of the upright post.
The post likely had a tenon that fitted into a mortice or slot in the cross beam, which made it a Tau cross. Constantine's mother was illustrated standing next to the "true cross", a Tau cross, and it was not more than 4'-5' tall. So that shows that Jesus no doubt carried the cross beam to the pit called Golgotha, a garbage pit, a gehenna, and it was placed on the tenon of the post, and held in place by a projecting peg. That no doubt made it difficult to hold the head vertical. The object was to make it uncomfortable after all and torturous. His knees likely scraped the ground if his arms weren't strapped as well as nailed at the wrists.
Pay attention to the timing of this documentary and it has nothing to do with Christmas but everything to with the ones who reject HIM to this very day.
Those who deny Me I will deny before My FATHER – Matthew 10 : 33
I know of those who say they are Jews but are not, but are the synagogue of Satan. – Revelation 2 : 9 and 3 : 9
What blows my mind is not if its real or not but how did they decide it is jesus???? Did the church grab the cloth and just claim it…
Maybe it is the cloth of Mohammed 🙄🤦🏼♂️
roman catholic relic……mmmh
Does the shroud’s faint bloodstained image really show a crucified Christ? Short answer NO, Jesus has never existed and there's no GOD.
Supposedly, a person who followed the private sect of the Catholic Church known as the OPUS DEI Sect of the underground workings within the Catholic Church who have ties to Bishops, Pope's, and High Ranked Cardinals within
The Vatican 🇻🇦 but look like ordinary organised priests by day but would cause themselves to try understand the pain process Jesus Christ had to deal with by Self Harming in secret and only those of the secret Organisation would know who was involved this Shroud of Turin was likely a Burial Cloth of a member of the organisation and then later became a way of gaining people to believe in a lie by false faith told by the Church at a later date when it was rediscovered at a later date and looked like a later interterpreted idea of what Jesus potentially looked like
Replace Jesus with Alexander or any other historical figure 90% pplwill say it's Authentic.
Teddy Bears
NO.
ST JOHN 3:16-17!
Far more likely that its Leonardo taking the world's first long exposure picture. Explains the laying down, probably for hours while the image developed. The church was HUNGRY for revivals in faith.
Man, people need to believe in something sooo bad
No, he didn’t. Jesus, as a historical figure, never existed. The probability of his existence is one in three. We have more factual evidence for many figures considered mythological or divine than for Jesus. Read books and peer-reviewed historical studies on this topic. Everything that exists in Palestine, was made by kings after third century.
Come on, you guys, it's Christmas 🎄. How about you folks focusing less on what Jesus had on his back. And focus more on words coming out of his mouth. And message he hoped to share with the world 🌎 That what he would have wanted us to do. 🎉~ Respectfully
this long video is not worth wasting time to watch, no one knows real truth about Jesus
Short answer: No.
