Two-year jail sentence handed down for fatal BC collision at Massey Tunnel

In a Richmond, B.C. courtroom, emotions ran high as the wrong-way driver responsible for a fatal crash in the George Massey Tunnel was handed a two-year jail sentence. Sundeep Singh Mann, 42, had pleaded guilty to dangerous driving causing death and bodily harm in the tragic incident that claimed the life of Ky Tran, 61, and left her husband seriously injured. The collision occurred late at night on September 2, 2020.

Tears of relief were shed by the victim’s family as the sentence was announced. Lisa Tran, the victim’s daughter, expressed gratitude that the judge took into consideration the impact statements provided by the family. Despite Mann having six previous driving prohibitions on his record, Judge Diana Vandor acknowledged his genuine remorse and horror at his actions.

Described as “horrible and heartbreaking” by Judge Vandor, the crash served as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of dangerous driving.
